POIER - Arnold Poier husband of the late Mrs. Alice Poier of Yorkton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was eighty nine years of age. Arnold Frederick Phillip Poier was born in the Landestreu area on May 30th, 1920 to George and Mary (nee Busch) Poier. He was baptized and confirmed at the Landestreu Church, helped out on the family farm and after high school Arnold attended Concordia College in Edmonton to further his studies. Arnold then served in the Army and after his discharge married his loving wife Alice (Schendel) in 1942. They farmed in the MacNutt area until 1948 when they moved to Yorkton where Arnold worked at Young's Garage; he then began his career travelling for the William Nielsen Co.; selling chocolate and spreading happiness through SE Saskatchewan for 25 years. He then worked for SGI in Yorkton until his retirement at age 65. Arnold's dedication and devotion to God was evident in his lifeline involvement with Zion Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed his volunteerism with the Canadian Cancer Society, the TB Association, the Boy Scouts, was President of the local A C T and Dominion Vice-President of the A C T. Alice and Arnold enjoyed many happy years together at their favourite place, their home at Madge Lake - golfing, fishing, having fun with their lake buddies and enjoying their little dogs. Arnold passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Arnold was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Poier, in-laws Otto and Ottilie Schendel, his loving and sadly missed wife of 63 years Alice, his brother Elmer, and sister Cleone Ferridge, sisters-in-law Edna (George) Schaann, Doris (Ted) Kauffeld, and brother-in-law Eitel Schendel. Arnold leaves to mourn his passing and lovingly cherish his memory his daughter Joan (Ivan) Dreger of Regina and son Douglas (Loreen) Poier of Yorkton, also 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, brother Roland (Gertie) Poier of Prince Albert, sister Marjean (Edward) Schendel of Saskatoon, sisters-in-law, Frieda Schendel of Calgary, Marveline Poier of Regina and brother-in-law John Ferridge of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. As well as his constant companion, his dog, Pammy. A Service of Comfort was held on Friday, March 5, 2010 from The Yorkton Memorial Grardens Family Centre with Rev. Daniel Moeller officiating. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Daniel Moeller officiating. Organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Speak, O Lord, Your Servant Listens", "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus" and "I'm but a Stranger Here". Honourary Bearers were Bill & Peggy Dicker, Bill & Alice Schnieder, Cliff & Rose Prout and Norm & Roxie Graff. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Alexander Ross Branch # 77 performed the Legion Burial Rite. Interment followed in the Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with grandson, Alan Dreger, great grandsons, Kurtis & Jordan McGillivray, nephews, Jamie Poier, Glenn Poier and Dean Schendel serving as casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Arnold may be made to the Lutheran Hour as gifts of remembrance. Condolences for the family may be emailed to baileysfuneralhome@sasktel.net .
