Obituary of Sandra Ruf

On January 26, 2010, Sandra Ruf beloved daughter of Ralph Ruf and the late Nadean passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her place of work at Melville, Sask. She was 42 years old. Born to Ralph and the late Nadean Ruf on February 26, 1967, Sandra was the last of three children. Along with her two older sisters, Tammy and Tracey, Sandra spent most of her years living in or near Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Sandra was quite a character making those around her laugh and enjoy her company. It wasn't unusual for her to start cracking sarcastic remarks (her sense of humour) to those who loved her in a fun and humorous way. Her quick wit and charm would out do those she was challenging every time. Sandra's favourite past times were watching movies, listening to music, and being with her family. She also had a love for small children and received her babysitting certificate in 1996. She was so proud of this accomplishment and spent many hours watching her niece, Shelby. However, nothing could top spending time with her family, especially her dad. He was the world to her and her to him. The two of them shared many wonderful times together including camping every summer at Good Spirit Lake and many, many weekend trips to Dad's house which she just couldn't wait for! Family camping every summer was a past time enjoyed by all and Sandra always felt overwhelmed with love by her family at these times. She loved to sit and play cards with Alyssa and Bill and Stephen even got her into the boat once! Campfire time was her favourite though because she loved to sing! The louder the better! Sandra worked at the Saskatchewan Abilities Council as a trainee for many years. In 1991, she moved in with her sister, Tammy, and remained with Tammy and her daughter, Shelby, for fourteen years. Due to the fact that Shelby was only eight months old when Sandra moved in with them, the two grew up more like sisters than aunty and niece. Sandra was a great caregiver to her little niece and was the only person that could ever put Shelby to bed! In 1995, Sandra moved with Tammy and Shelby to Regina while Tammy completed her university degree. It was during this time that Sandra got to apply her love for children as she worked as a volunteer at the University Day Care Center for two and a half years. Rocking babies, rubbing backs, singing lullabys, and feeding little ones, made each and every day so worthwhile for Sandra. In 2002, she moved again with Tammy to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and worked at Diversified Services. She made many friends there and enjoyed her work. However, after needing some surgery in 2005, Sandra's mobility decreased substantially. It was much too difficult for her to climb the stairs in Moose Jaw and her sister was also having some health issues at the same time. Sandra's family decided that it was time for her to move closer to home and into a group environment. The closest location was in Melville, Saskatchewan where she worked at Rail City Industries. It was here that sister Tracey worked hard to help Sandra with the adjustment period of a new home. But with lots of patience Sandra made some very close friends, especially with a few of the staff members in the group home and lived there until her passing. Sandra is predeceased by: her mother, Nadean Ruf (nee Liebrecht), brother-in-law, Scott Saylor, Grandfather, August Liebrecht, and Grandparents Alex and Minnie Ruf. She leaves to cherish in her memory: her loving father, Ralph Ruf, sisters :Tammy Saylor and Tracey Stauch (Bill), her adoring nieces and nephew, Shelby Saylor, Stephen and Alyssa Stauch, her grandmother, Ann Liebrecht and finally, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Rest in Peace Max! The Funeral service was held on Monday afternoon February 1, 2010 from ST. Paul Lutheran Church Yorkton Saskatchewan with Pastor Fred Schneider officiaiting.
