Obituary of Henry Kurtz

Henry (Hank) Kurtz was born on November 7, 1935 at Melville Saskatchewan the son of Adolf and Daisy (nee Dietrich) Kurtz. Hank grew up on the family homestead until at the age of 16 when he enrolled in the army. After discharge from the army he became a logger in northern BC. After spending a few years in the interior of BC he moved back to Saskatchewan. He worked for Jim Birkstein in Davidson, SK at his farm. While in Davidson he met Jeanette Stricker and they were united in marriage on May 21, 1966 in Rhein. SK. The couple resided in Rhein until 1970 when they moved to Thompson, MB where they worked at the Inco Nickel Mines. In 1975 they moved back to Rhein, SK and built the family home. Hank began work for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool on the repair Crew and then onto Foreman. He worked there until his workplace injury resulted in his retirement. Hank was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the garden and flower beds. Every spring he always joked about making sure the potatoes were planted in the snow so he would be the first to harvest. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family especially the grandchildren. In November 2009 following ill health, Hank entered the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, where he stayed until his passing on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the age of 74. Hank Kurtz was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Daisy (Dietrich) Kurtz and three sisters: Marg Walchuk, Ruby Kraushar and Pearl Bell. He leaves to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life his wife Jeanette of Rhein, SK; one son Jack (Terry) Kurtz of Rhein and one daughter Clareen (Scott) McNabb of Rhein; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters: Noreen (Eugene ) Cymbalisty of Melville, Grace (Lorne) Parsons of Calgary, AB, Shirley (Hank) Myers of Pritchard, BC and five brothers: Herb (Grace) of Fenwood, Art (Chris) of Regina, Adolf (Louise) of Grayson, Harry (Maureen) of Tisdale, Cliff (Lynn) Of Saskatoon and one brother - in- law Howard Bell of Edmonton, AB along with numerous nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends.
