Obituary of Olga Pawliw

PAWLIW - Olga Pawliw, resident of the Theodore Health Care Centre passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010. She was 86 years of age. Olga Pawliw (nee Shlahetka) was born March 29, 1923 to John and Mary (nee Diakow) Shlahetka, the fourth child born into a family of four sisters and one brother. Olga grew up and attended school in the Whitesand District. On October 31, 1942 Olga married the love of her life, William Pawliw. They travelled eleven miles to their new one room log home half a mile northeast of Theodore. Their lives focused on building a lucrative dairy and grain operation. They raised three children and even in difficult times, they provided for all their children to receive post secondary education. Olga had a green thumb for growing vegetables and nurturing an outstanding flower garden and yard. She had a unique talent as a seamstress. Olga was the greatest cook and baker and her family and friends immensely enjoyed this culinary talent. She made the best doughnuts, chicken noodle soup, French fries and root beer. Olga's first priority was her family and she loved and nurtured them. Her gift was her immense love and sense of humor. Her infectious smile was remembered by all who came in contact with her. Olga and Bill enjoyed some time travelling in their retirement years. They visited Mexico, Texas, Hawaii, Arizona and the Canadian west coast. Olga Pawliw was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Shlahetka, an infant brother, sister Anne Pasishnek and her husband Matt, brother Bill, grandson Colin Pawliw, brother in law Mike Hollowachuk. Olga leaves her family to cherish her memory and celebrate her life; daughter Iris Skehar and her husband Ed of Theodore; daughter Addie Tokarchuk and her husband Dave of Saskatoon; son Randy Pawliw and his wife Donna of Priddis Alberta. Very special to her were her grandchildren and great grandchildren- Cindy and her husband Kyle Kildaw and their daughters Alexandra and Samantha of Dalmeny, Saskatchewan; Jason and his wife Lori Skehar and their sons Tyler and Tegan of Chestermere, Alberta; Dr. Laurissa Tokarchuk and her husband Dr. Matthew Bocci of London England; Brent Tokarchuk and his wife Dr. Natasha Crellin of San Francisco, California; Eldon Pawliw and his wife Sarah and their son Cole and daughter Julia of Calgary, Alberta; Aron and his wife Becki Pawliw of Edmonton, Alberta; Lowen and his wife Esther Pawliw of Calgary, Alberta; and Nowel Pawliw of Sun Valley, Idaho. She also leaves to rejoice in her memory her sisters Lena (George) Popowich of Yorkton, Iris (Matt) Ryczak of Canora, Pauline Hollowachuk of Calgary plus numerous nieces and nephews. Thanks to Brittany Wlock, with whom Olga shared a very special bond. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, January 24, 2010 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, January 25, 2010 from St. Mary's Church with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as celebrant. The resposes were led by members of St. Mary's english choir. The epistle-reader was Addie Tokarchuk, and the eulogy was given by Randy Pawliw. The crossbearer was Iris Ryczak. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemene at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jason Skehar, Brent Tokarchuk, Cindy Kildaw, Aron Pawliw, Lowen Pawliw and Brittany Wlock serving as the casketbearers.
