Obituary of Mary Sackney

SACKNEY - Mary Sackney was born on June 19, 1914 in the Buchanan - Rama district, daughter of Dmytro and Anastasia (nee Bosowich) Petryshen. On October 13, 1935 Mary was united in marriage to John Sackney at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Buchanan. The couple established a family farm in the Bellenden district and continued farming until 1974 when they retired to Yorkton. Besides her responsibilities on the farm and raising their family, Mary was active in the affairs of the Catholic Parish at Bellenden. She willingly participated in staging events at Bellenden School and at the Bellenden Community Hall. In Yorkton, she remained active via the CWL of St Mary's Parish. She entered eternal life on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 with family at her bedside at The Yorkton and District Nursing Home. Mary was the last surviving member of her generation, having been predeceased by sisters Dolly Fedyk and Maggie Yakimyshen and three brothers Nick, Pete and Mike. She was also predeceased by a son Eugene at the age of two years. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Orest (Lorna) of Airdrie; Les (Elaine) of Lethbridge and a daughter Sylvia (Don) Walters of Regina; seven grandchildren, Nolan (Ginger) Sackney, Erin (John) Bolger, Jason, Braden (Darla) and Justin (Svjetlana) Walters and Eric (Nicole) and Kari Lynn Sackney. She is survived also by nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Carson and Nathan Sackney, Teagen and Killian Bolger, Ethan Walters, and Helena, Benjamin and Nikolas Walters. The Parastas Service was held on Monday, January 25, 2010 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Rev. Father Vladimir Kolpakov of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. Cantor, Ed Pindus, assisted by members of the Parish Choir led in the singing of the responses. Son Les Sackney gave the eulogy. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Nolan Sackney, Erin Bolger, Jason Walters, Braden Walters, Eric Sackney and Kari Sackney serving as the casketbearers.
