RAMSTEAD - Mrs. Barbara Ramstead of Yorkton, beloved wife of Gerald Ramstead passed away suddenly on October 30, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of seventy. Barbara Jean Ramstead (nee Leson) was born on May 4, 1939 in the Canora district. A daughter born to Alice and Mike Leson (nee Terlesky) she was raised on the family farm in Canora and attended school there. Being the second eldest of a family of nine, she learnt quickly how to be a help to her mother and father. After her education, she began working as a secretary in Sauga, ON for about one year. She decided to move back home to be closer to her family and returned to the family farm. She met Gerald Ramstead in May of 1966 and started a courtship with him. The couple then resided in Yorkton and lived there until her sudden passing. They were married on October 7, 1970 at Westview United Church in Yorkton. The couple was blessed with three children, Leonard, Linda and Lana. Barbara worked various jobs as a barmaid and waitress in several establishments in Yorkton as well as being a great homemaker. She enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the garden, fishing and camping, as well as watching her love of nature, especially the geese at Jaycee Beach. She looked forward to taking family vacations every summer to the Rocky Mountains, as well as many camping and fishing trips. She loved spending time with her nine grandchildren and spent time camping and fishing with them too. Barbara was an awesome baker, she made the best buns, bread, donuts and thin bread money could buy. She also loved to make Ukrainian dishes and faithfully celebrated Ukrainian Christmas with her family with some of the traditional favourites. Unfortunately she suffered a stroke in 1993 and 1996 which limited her ability to do the things she used to do, however she continued with the Ukrainian tradition as best as she could. On October 7th Barbara and Gerald celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. They spent all of their time with each other, doing everything and anything together, she will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Gerald. Barbara leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her husband Gerald Ramstead of Yorkton, a son Leonard Ramstead of Deloraine, MB, two daughters, Linda Cross (Dennis Wenet) of Yorkton, SK and Lana (Lyle) Mucha of Melville, SK; nine grandchildren: James Keller and Crystal Ramstead, Lance Cross, Amanda, Alicia and Ryan Wenet, Jasmine, Jesse and Savannah Mucha; her mother, Alice Leson of Yorkton; two brothers: Wilfred (Adeline) Leson, Norman (Debbie) Leson, both of Canora, SK; six sisters: Marie Leson of Yorkton, SK, Evy (Jerry) Greaves of Vancouver, BC, Karen (Rick) Kanski of Winnipeg, MB, Linda (John) Lafantasie of Winnipeg, MB, Debbie (Tim) Gibney of Woodstock, ON and Connie (Mike) Carle of Stoney Plain, AB, as well as her brother and sister in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
