Obituary of Mildred Helm

Mildred Marjory Helm was born on October 29, 1933 in Yorkton; a daughter of Caroline (nee Sprecher) and Frederich William Bruhn. Following the death of her mother in 1945 Millie lived with her sister Martha and Ray Smith. She attended Simpson and Burke Schools, graduating from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute in 1952. She worked one year as a salesclerk before being united in marriage to Marvin Lorne Helm on June 17, 1953 at St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton. The couple farmed north of Ebenezer. On April 11, 1991 Marvin passed away and in June of 1996 Millie moved into Yorkton. She later became a resident of the Bentley Retirement Community, where she had resided until the th time of her passing, on October 30 , 2009. She was 76 years of age. During her many years in the Ebenezer area, Millie was very involved in her church and community: she was active in the women's ministries of the Ebenezer Baptist Church; she taught Sunday School for 20 years (and 4 more in Yorkton); she served on the executive of the Curling Club, the Parkland College, TOPS, and senior citizen organizations; she was well known for putting on showers of all kinds, making scrapbooks and emceeing parties. She was also active in hospital visiting, phoning the shut-ins, and remembering everyone's birthdays and anniversaries by phone calls and cards.. Her hobbies included collecting and reading poems and religious poetry and books. She cared for her many varieties of houseplants, and had a good collection of spoons and plates, she also enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining her many friends. Predeceased by her mother in 1945, her father in 1974; two brothers in infancy; and brothers Emil (1960), Albert (1981), Archie (1991), Scotty (1991), Bill (1994), and Ed (2006). She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Rod Miller) of Saskatoon; son Brian (Denise) of Ebenezer; grandchildren: Melanie, Jennifer and Blaid; and a great grandson Jayden. Also one sister, Martha Smith of Yorkton; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. Interment Details Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery
