BADOWICH - Edward Joe Badowich husband of Irene Badowich of Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, formerly of Bredenbury passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was seventy eight years of age. Edward Badowich was born on June 30, 1931 in Brandon, Manitoba, the middle son of Frank and Lily Badowich (nee Olenic). Ed moved to Bredenbury in 1941 and later found work with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He met then married Irene Hnatiuk on July 7th, 1961. They had four children, Carrie, Deborah, Frank, and Daniel. Ed remained a steadfast fixture with the CP rail in Bredenbury, serving as a Carman Mechanic for 38 years. Other jobs he held included butcher, electrical repairman, and musician. Ed also possessed a creative streak which led to innovations and projects seen in many aspects of his life. Ed's unending dedication to supporting and providing for his family's well-being led to an extremely devoted lifestyle with regards to his work ethic. Additionally, Ed was very devoted to the community of Bredenbury, serving as a mayor, town councillor, recreation board member, school board member, and a life time membership with the Bredenbury Lion's Club. He also was deeply involved with the Bredenbury Golf club as well as helping with the Bredenbury Curling club. Ed's creative nature led to him being a driving force behind Bredenbury's renowned Christmas lights show. His great love of music also led to participation in the church choir. Family and enjoying the outdoors were always a priority for Ed. The Badowich family often enjoyed camping and travelling whenever the opportunity presented itself. The Badowich family possessed several pets and Ed, a strong nature lover, bonded keenly with those as well. In his leisure time, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, curling, cards, and exploring numerous camp sites with his family. Ed was a kind, humble, huge hearted man who earned respect by his actions and involvement. His love of family was demonstrated in the quiet pride he felt in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Always, he wished to be kept abreast of community and family events and his desire to contribute never diminished. Ed possessed courage and strength and persevered through many challenges both emotional as well as physical. As a father, he was a strong example of fortitude, leadership, wisdom, respect, and patience. As a husband, he was steadfast, supporting, and loving to Irene. Ed's sense of humour was always a persistent characteristic, and he could always make light of the most difficult situations. Ed always cared for those around him, he brought his sense of humour and joy of life to all those privileged to know him. Ed was predeceased by parents, Frank and Lily Badowich; brothers, Barney, brother, John and sister in law, Jane; father-in-law, Matthew Hnatiuk; and step-father Bolislav Naronowitz. Ed leaves to mourn and celebrate his life, his loving wife of forty eight years, Irene of Bredenbury, SK; his four children, Carrie (Stan) Lewchuk of Spokane, WA; Deb (Terry) Bulitz of Yorkton, SK; Frank (Josie) Badowich of Bradford, ON; and Daniel (Edralin) Badowich of Toronto, ON; his sister, Charlotte Badowich of Kelowna, BC; his mother-in-law, Dora Hnatuik of Bredenbury, SK; his beloved grandchildren include Christopher and Emily Lewchuk, Drew, Alaira and Jade Bulitz and Anthony and Alexandra Badowich; Also mourning Ed's passing are his nieces and nephews, his very close in-laws Billy and Alice Schuster of Saltcoats, SK Keith and Flo Welch of Red Deer, AB, Alan and Sandra Hnatiuk of Yorkton, SK; and many, many beloved friends, caregivers and members of the community. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from Knox United Church in Bredenbury with Rev. Chang Lee and Rev. Walter Farquharson officiating. The organist, Lorne Neil with members of the Knox United Church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Come In, Come In and Sit Down', 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace'. The choir anthem was 'In the Garden'. Tributes and words of remembrance were given by Ed's children, Carrie, Deborah, Frank and Daniel. Ed's wife, Irene and sister, Charlotte served as the urnbearers. Honourary bearers were members of the Bredenbury Lions Club. A reception followed at the Bredenbury Community Hall. Memorials in memory of Ed may be made to the Knox United Church Memorial Fund or to the Lakeside Manor Care Home Gazebo Fund as gifts of remembrance.
