Obituary of John William Grebinski

GREBINSKI - Mr. John Grebinski of Ituna, beloved husband of Anne Grebinski entered eternal rest on August 10, 2009 at the Ituna Health Care Centre at the age of 90 years. John William Grebinski was born on November 24, 1918 in the Beckenham district. He was the fifth of twelve children born to Anton and Katherine (nee Kerunsky) Grebinski. His siblings were Mary, Frank, Angela, Stanley, Pete, Victoria, Bill, Annie, Michael, Leonard and Sophie. After completing his education at Winthorpe School he worked at various jobs starting at the age of 16. This would be farming in the summer in Saskatchewan and lumberjacking in the winter anywhere from Manitoba to Ontario. On July 17, 1949 John married Anne Premak. They farmed in the Beckenham district and raised their family of five children. John worked tirelessly building his homestead with Anne. He was a jack of all trades and was known as a helpful neighbour to all who knew him. John was predeceased by sisters Mary Bulych, Sophie Butchko, Angela Kolybaba; brothers Frank, Stanley and Bill and son Gerald on March 16, 1996. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 60 years, Anne; children Katherine (Marcel) Piché, John (Marlene) Grebinski, Grace (Louis) Baxter, Richard; seven grandchildren Krystal (Shaheen) Zareh, Jason (Xiao Xia) Piché, Michelle (Chad) Nelson, Jayne Grebinski, Lauren Grebinski, Robert Baxter and Danielle Baxter; two great-grandchildren Devon Piché and Finley Nelson. Prayers were held on Friday, August 14th and the Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 15th at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy as the Celebrant. The altarservers were Laura & Rebbeca Marroquin. The organist, Paulette van der Helm led parish choir members in the singing of the hymns, "Bot Not Afraid", "Like A Shepherd", "Alleluia, Give Thanks to The Risen Lord", "This Day in New Jerusalem" and "How Great Thou Art". The readers were Danielle Baxter, Jayne & Lauren Grebinski and the leader of intercessions was Jayne Grebinski. The cross bearer was Robert Baxter. The interment followed in the Ituna R.C. Cemetery with Bernie Grebinski, Eugene Kresowaty, Lorne Koback, Dennis Premak, Glen Butchko and Ernie Spilchuk serving as the casket bearers. Reflections of John's life were shared by son John and granddaughter Jayne Grebinski. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
