Obituary of Steve Kanciruk

KANCIRUK - Mr. Steve Kanciruk, beloved husband of Helen of Ituna, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Ituna Pioneer Health Centre, he was 85 years of age. Steve was born March 21, 1924, in Lemberg, Saskatchewan, the second of eight children. As a young farm boy, he attended Chickney Rural School until Grade 9. In addition to working on the family farm, Steve worked as a farm labourer and was in high demand because of his great work ethic and exceptional stooking skills. After the end of the Second World War, at 18 or 19 years of age, Steve was employed in the lumber camps in Northern Ontario but the call of home was too strong to resist. As there was no farm land available in the Lemberg area, Steven bought his 2 quarters of property in the RM of Tullymet in 1947. The following spring he moved on to the farm and planted his first crops on the only land under cultivation at the time, all of 80 acres. On October 26, 1950, Steve married Helen Slywka in Ituna, Saskatchewan. Together the couple had 7 children (3 deceased as infants). Steve's passion right up to the day he died was farming and his family. Steve's last two and half years were spent in the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre. It was there that he passed peaceful with his wife of 59 years by his side. Steve leaves to mourn his wife Helen, daughter Christine (Leo and Tianna); son David (Jeanniene, Martina and fiancé Kirt, and Andrew; daughter Brenda (Massimo and Talia); son Wesley (Tammy, Michael, Marisha, Deidre and Mackenzie, Kyla and Keastyn). He is further survived by brother Frank (with Beverly), sister Katherine (Keller), brother Tony (with Marlene), sister Vicky (Milford), brother Jim, and sisters-in-law Esther Kanciruk, Ella Kanciruk, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Paul and mother Mary (Pawelko), brothers Carl and Peter, and brother-in-law Mike Keller. ETERNAL MEMORY services directed by Baiiley's Funeral Home Ituna and Yorkton I've planted many a kernel of wheat, Welcomed many a morning sun. I've eaten the dust and tasted the wind, And I've gotten many a good job done. I've climbed off the tractor with dirt on my face, And pain in my weary bones, But somehow, I always can muster a grin, When I see the lights of home. Where my family waits, and the love of my life, Sets a table that's fit for a king. With her smile, and a hug, and a coffee mug, I know I have everything. As I trudge once more through the ield of my years, And separate chaff from the grain. I thank the good Lord, I can say in my heart That I'd do it all over again.
