Obituary of Thomas Wlock

Thomas (Tom) Martin Wlock of Yorkton, SK; entered eternal rest on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a short illness. He was 88 years of age. Thomas (was born on March 28, 1921 on the Wlock homestead near Jedburgh, SK., the son of Anton and Mary (Nee Sarnetsky) Wlock. He grew up on the family farm and attended Folkstone School. Tom joined the army in July 1942 and was in the signal corps until his discharge in April 1946. He was stationed at various locations across Canada. In 1949 Tom started farming east of Yorkton: growing grain and raising cattle. On July 15, 1951 Tom married Alice Elizabeth Krunick of Beaverdale, SK at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Tom had several interests including: attending Saskatchewan Roughrider Football games, making birdhouses and fishing with friends. In later years he enjoyed crossword, jigsaw puzzles and Word Jumbles. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion General Alexander Ross Branch # 77 for 34 years. He was also a past member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the National Farmers' Union. He was predeceased by his parents Anton and Mary; his brothers: John, Frank, Joe and Stanley; sisters - in - law Mary, Katie and Jean and his beloved wife Alice on October 15, 2008. He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his loss his daughter Gloria and her husband Leigh Canham of Regina, SK; grandchildren: Robin (Kirk Nordick) and Drew all of Regina, Sk; his son Mitchell who resides on the family farm near Yorkton; brothers: Walter (Pearl) of Winnipeg, MB., Felix of Yorkton, SK; sisters -in - law: Julia Wlock and Jennie Wlock both of Yorkton, SK., Iris (Harvey) Polegi of Jedburgh, SK.as well as many relatives and friends. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday morning, May 27, 2009 from ST. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Yorkton, SK.; with Reverend Father Ray Lukie C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. The responses to the Liturgy were sung by Ed Pindus and members of the Parish Choir. Audrey Prysliak was the Cross Bearer and Thomas' grandson Drew Canham read the Epistle. Following the Panahyda the Act of Remembrance and Legion Burial Rite was given by members of the Royal Canadian Leigon General Alexander Ross Branch # 77 with: Sergeant - At - Arms Peter Wyatt, Andy Juba as Padre' John Miller playing Last Post and Reveille ; George Arnold, Russell Bischop, Wally Austman and Bill McQuarrie serving as Colour Guard. The interment followed in the Garden of ST. Luke Yorkton Memorial Gardens with: Martin, Bernie Wlock, Tim, Trevor Polegi, Emil Benko and Ed Sek serving as Casket Bearers.
