Obituary of Mervin Wegner

WEGNER - Mr. Mervin Wegner beloved husband of Arlene of Ebenezer passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Mervin Gus Wegner was born on June 18, 1950 at Yorkton to Gustaf and Emma Wegner. He received his education in Langenau, Ebenezer and Canora Schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Mervin began faming with his father and brother and also worked at various other jobs including driving school bus, construction of the Parkland Mall and worked with the Yorkton Exhibition at cattle shows for many years. On April 26, 1975 Mervin was united in marriage to Arlene Pister in Rhein. The couple resided on a farm in the Ebenezer district. The couple were blessed with three children Calla, Jay-Lyn and Tyler. A few years later they moved into Ebenezer. In 2004 Mervin and Arlene moved to Yorkton to take care of Arlene's mother and recently they moved back to Ebenezer. In 2000 Mervin retired from farming on his own but continued to use his farming skills by helping family and friends up until his sudden passing on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Mervin, better known to most of us as Stanley enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends. His two granddaughters McKenna and Rylan were precious to him. He spent many hours turning the skipping rope and watching them dance. Mervin was very entertaining to be around and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his wife Arlene; daughter Jay-Lyn (Damon) Radison; son Tyler; two granddaughters McKenna and Rylan Radison; a sister Audrey (Grant) Martel; sister-in-law Barb (Gerald) Wegner; brothers-in-law Garry (Glennis) Pister, Grant (Joelann) Pister; sisters-in-law Shirley (Alfred) Ostafie, Barbara (Jiggs) McLeod, Marilyn (Allan) Todoschuk and Sherry (Gerry) Schnell and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. Mervin was predeceased by his infant daughter Calla; his parents Emma and Gus Wegner and his older brother George; his mother and father in-law Rachael and Albert Pister; a sister in law Sharon Pister and a brother-in-law Harold Todoschuk; his niece Carey Martel and nephew Mitchell Schnell. Mervin, we love you. Rest in Peace. A Service of Comfort followed by visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Pastor Fred Schneider officiating. Tributes & words of remembrance were given by Gerry Schnell and Michael Laevens. The organist, Carla Laycock led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Amazing Grace', ‘How Great Thou Art' and ‘Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me'. Special music played was ‘Climb' by Miley Cyrus and ‘Angels Among Us' by Alabama. Honourary bearers were Grant Pister, Dwayne Sushetski, Chris Wallace, Alfred Ostafie, Wayne Fenske, Keith Ruf, Ernie & Valerie Liebrecht, Rod & Janet Wegner, Dan Ewasiuk and Garry McDowell. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with Darcy Wegner, Scott Wegner, Shawn Martel, Michael Laevens, Carson Schnell and Craig Ostafie serving as casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Mervin may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
