Obituary of Glenn Hildebrandt

HILDEBRANDT - On March 31, 2009, at age 66, Glenn, beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away unexpectedly on his acreage near Rokeby. Glennwood Herbert Raymond Hildebrandt was born in Esterhazy on November 8, 1942. He was the eldest son of Herb and Alwina (nee Remus) Hildebrandt. Glenn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Karlsruhe, then worked and took over the family farm. Glenn was married to Judy Dietrich on October 25, 1969. They were blessed with three sons Jason, Robin, and Darian. The family lived on their farm south of Langenburg until retiring from farming in 1999, when Glenn and Judy moved to an acreage by Rokeby. As a young boy Glenn would harness the horses daily and drive them to school. He always enjoyed horseback riding, taking part in 4H, and looking forward to the spring and fall cattle moves where he could ride. Glenn's true passion was the outdoors and farming. As a typical farmer, Glenn was immediately involved and vocal with any mention of farming. He had his trucker's wallet to show off. Glenn also found out in his later years that he enjoyed wearing shorts and sandals on trips to the Dominican, Cuba, Mexico and St. Marten. After over 50 years he managed to get rid of his farmers tan. Glenn also loved the old vehicles, especially the 50's and 60's, and would go to car and hobby shows whenever he could. Loved and respected by family and friends, Glenn is survived by his wife Judy, son Jason (Darolyn) of Okotoks, AB; son Robin (Shannon) of Moose Jaw; and son Darian (Veronica) of Abbotsford, BC; five grandchildren: Jadon, Caitlin & Justin of Okotoks; Cole and Ella of Moose Jaw. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Herb in 1982, Alwina in 2007, and by his brother Roy in 1996. His legacy will live on in his sons and grandchildren, he will be sorely missed. The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Langenburg with Rev. Michael Bergman officiating. Organist, Maxine Werle led the congregation in the singing of the hymns How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, and Softly and Tenderly. The urnbearer was Jason Hildebrandt. Following a memorial luncheon, the interment took place in the Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery at MacNutt. Cremation and funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
