BUSCH - Mr. Martin Busch, resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 92 years of age. Martin Busch was born on November 13, 1915 on the Benson farm, north-east of Calder, Saskatchewan; the youngest of three children born to Dan and Dorothy (nee Bollenbach) Busch, Russian immigrants. He received most of his education at Clova School, and a few months at Gartmore School. At a young age Martin started helping his father farm and in 1943 they bought the farm by Calder. In 1940 Martin started farming on his own and continued to farm until he retired in 1984, when his son Albert took over. He also worked for Municipal Hail for 11 years as an adjuster. On April 27, 1950 Martin married Helene Koch, and together they had two children, Albert and Bettyann. Martin was a board member on the Czernawka School board for a few years. His way of insuring a good education for his children. Martin's favorite pastime was fishing with his grandchildren and friends. If he wasn't fishing he was playing ball hockey with his grandchildren, running around, laughing, and enjoying retirement. He spent a lot of hours picking berries with friends during the summer, and it wasn't too often that Martin didn't show up for morning coffee with friends in Roblin, and later at the Parkland Mall, when they moved into Yorkton in October of 2000. Martin also enjoyed playing cards, coin collecting, hunting in his earlier days, going to auctions, on road trips with friends. He had the ability to meet and enjoy the company of people anywhere. He loved visiting with family, friends and strangers alike. He could always find something to do, he was never bored. When asked what he would change about his life, his response was always: "Nothing, I've had a good life". Sometimes he'd also add "I did what I wanted to". There was no place like 'home' for dad and mom's good cooking. Martin had been a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for the past two years. Predeceased by his mother Dorothy in 1937, his father Dan in 1955; and by brothers Phillip and Henry in 1988.
