Obituary of Mary Hudemka
A memorial folder from the funerral service may be printed under "Memories" tab, then choose "Memorial Program". Mary Hudemka was born on September 16, 1911 in the Sheho district of Saskatchewan. She was the eldest of nine children of Bill and Mary (nee Hnatiuk) Slowski, Ukrainian pioneers of the province. Mary grew up on the farm and attended Deer Creek and Insinger Schools. She helped on the farm and later worked for various farmers in the Insinger and Foam Lake areas. On October 18, 1939 Mary was united in marriage to John Hudemka at Theodore. The couple went working for farmers until they later began farming on their own. Mary and John farmed together until 1961 when they retired into Insinger. Mary was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church Ladies Aid. She loved sewing and was a seamstress all of her life. Gardening and travelling were other favourite pastimes of Mary. Following John's death in 1996 Mary moved to Lethbridge to be closer to family. Here she lived an th active and independent life until her sudden passing on October 29 , 2008 at the age of ninety-seven years. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mary; her husband, John; her son Wilf in May of 2008; three sisters, Jennie Kolibaba, Annie Moroz and Katie Kolybabi; two brothers, Harold and Johnnie Slowski. Mary leaves to cherish her memory one son Merven (Sharon) of Lethbridge, AB; four grandchildren, Barb McKee of Moose Jaw, SK, Pam (Curtis) Klein of Calgary, AB, Roni (Jon) Kirkness of Calgary, AB and Melinda Hudemka of Lethbridge, AB; two great grandchildren, Paige Kirkness and Adrina Joy Klein of Calgary, AB; two sisters, Lena Fedyk of Benito, MB and Bertha (Charles) Chambers of Ridgeway, ON; one brother Matt (Arlene) Slowski of Bashaw, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
