Obituary of Michailo Nytschyk
NYTSCHYK - Michailo Nytschyk passed away on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 86 years of age. Mike was born on September 21, 1922 at Horodenko, Western Ukraine; a son of Peter & Mary (Howuph) Nytschyk. He attended school to grade seven and then had to help on his parents farm. Mike came to Canada in 1948 at the age of 26. He landed by boat off the shores of New York and travelled to Toronto, Ontario. He worked odd jobs to make a living for a few years and then travelled to Saskatchewan. Here he met and married Victoria Derbowka on August 10, 1952 in Yorkton. In March of 1955, Mike received his Canadian citizenship. The couple lived with Victoria's parents on the farm for a short time then they moved to Timmins Ontario where Mike found work in the Gold Mine, until he suffered a serious back injury in 1974. Late in 1974 they moved to Yorkton, purchased their new home. In his retirement Mike worked for a short time for Weber's Homes as a yard watchman. He loved flowers and gardening and keeping their home well attended. Mike loved hockey especially cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He loved having family and friends drop in to visit and was very thankful to his caring neighbors, the Hilton's and Yaremko's. He enjoyed their visits, special meals and all the handy work. Mike peacefully entered eternal rest and joined his wife Victoria of 51 years. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Metro and John in Western Ukraine; his loving wife Victoria, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. Mike leaves to cherish his memory: nephew Steve and his wife Maria and their three sons in Western Ukraine; a special cousin in Stoney Creek, Ontario, John Nytschyk; sisters-in-law: Mary (Mike) Derkatch of Yorkton and Katie Bahrey of Roblin, MB; brother-in-law: Ronald Derbowka of Calgary; and all his special nephews and nieces and their families. We thank the special care extended to Mike by the nurses and care workers of the Yorkton Home Care; Wellness Centre and Meals on Wheels program. A very special thank you to Colleen and Katie of the Home Care Office, you were always there for Mike and us; forever grateful - God Bless!
