Obituary of Mike Matcyk
MATCYK - Mr. Mike Matcyk, resident of the Aspen Bluffs Villa in Yorkton, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 88 years of age. Mike Matcyk was born on January 15, 1920 at the family farm in the Calder District. He was the fourth of six children of Harry and Dora Matcyk. He attended Liberal School and as a young boy enjoyed playing ball and attending ball games. In his later teens he went to work on a neighboring farm in the valley and also on a farm in Marchwell District. At the age of 22 he went to work for Breecher's Lumber camp north of Roblin. In 1945 he returned to work on the family farm near Calder. He married Victoria Georgetts on October 31, 1954 and they lived and farmed north of Calder until 1984, when they moved into town. They continued farming until retiring in 1989. In 2000 they moved to Yorkton. Victoria passed away on December 4, 2007. Mike had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to tease and joke and he enjoyed telling stories about the family history. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing his sisters Nettie Smandych and Mary Prysiazniuk and sister-in-law Helen Matcyk along with numerous nephews, nieces and friends. The funeral service was held on Monday, October 20, 2008 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Mr. Mel Keeble of the Yorkton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark with Mervyn Prysiazniuk, Wes Denaka, Steven Denaka, Bob Smandych, Al Smandych and Bryan Ryan serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information
