Obituary of Nettie Antonishen

ANTONISHEN - Mrs. Anastasia ( Nettie) Antonishen passed away at the Ituna & District Pioneer Lodge on Friday August 22, 2008. She was the oldest child of Mary and Wasyl Hrynuik, born August 20, 1910 at Prud'Homme SK. Nettie moved to the Leross area in 1929 with her family, there she met George Antonishen and they were married in 1931. They made their home on a farm north of Leross, and then moved to the village of Leross. George and Nettie owned the blacksmith shop in Leross for many years. Nettie was devoted wife and mother; she loved to garden, and learnt many crafts, and was well known for her cake decorating and Ukrainian Easter eggs. After George passed away Nettie stayed in Leross. Then in 1986 she moved to the Paradise Lodge in Kelliher, until 2002 when she moved to the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. Nettie is predeceased by her husband George, son Mike, daughter-in-law Freida, infant children: Pauline, Malven, Sophie, and Joseph. Parents, Mary and Wasyl Hyrnuik, sister Ann Junker, and by brothers John, Nick, Mike and Peter. Nettie is survived by her daughter Jean (Carl) Dean, two brothers Steve (Pauline) Hyrnuik; Ned (Frances) Hyrnuik. Five grand children: Michelle Antonishen, Karen (Myron) Gravel, Robert (Debra) Antonishen, Carla (Trevor) Pond, and Kaylene (Paul) Douglas; and nine great grand children: Kimberly & Jeffery Gravel, Harris & Jennifer Antonishen, Bailey, Tyson & Torie Pond, and Elle & Connor Douglas; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2008 from St. Margaret Mary Parish/ St. Vladimirs Church Kelliher, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy officiating. The Hymn selections were: "Be Not Afraid" and "Amazing Grace". The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday morning, August 28, 2008 from St. Margaret Mary Parish with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy as Celebrant. The organist was Sarah Wilson leading members of the parish choir and congregation in the Hymns: "The Lord's My Sheperd", "Sing A New Song", "I Am The Bread Of Life", "May Flights of Angels Lead You On Your Way" and "How Great Thou Art". The Scripture readers were Kaylene Douglas and Robert Antonishen. Christine Clark was the cross bearer with Matthew DeGoojier and Bryan Wiilson serving as Altar Servers. The interment followed in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with all those who shared in Nettie's life as Honourary Bearers with Carla Pond, Myron Gravel, Gerald Antoneshyn, Kaylene Douglas, Robert Antonishen and Ernie Hrynuik serving as Casket Bearers. At the memorial luncheon reflections of Nettie's life were given by Robert Antonishen. services directed by Bailey's Funeral Home Ituna and Yorkton God made a wonderful Mother, a Mother who seemed never to grow old. He made her smile of the sunshine. and He molded her heart of pure gold. In her eyes he placed bright shining stars, in her cheeks fair roses you see.
