Obituary of Norma Kading

KADING - Norma Kading of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Saskatchewan passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at her residence. She was 84 years of age. Norma Gertrude Dorothy daughter of William and Julia (nee Hoeft) Miller was born October 30,1923 on a farm near Lipton, Saskatchewan. During her early childhood the family moved from Lipton to the Crescent Lake District then to Waldron where they settled. Being the eldest of seven children, she was a great help to her mother Julia with the younger children and all the farm chores. Norma attended the Marwin School near Waldron. As she matured into a young women she ventured off to Yorkton where she worked for Dr. Portnuff. In 1947, on January 1st, she was united in marriage to Evolt Kading, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorkton. The couple made their family home on a farm just outside the town of Saltcoats, Saskatchewan. Their union was blessed with four daughters and they farmed there together for twenty years. When Norma moved on, she lived in Fort Quapelle for a while and then relocated to Melville to work for Greg Kohnen. When her job came to an end with Mr. Kohnen she began helping a dear lady by the name of Annie Bailey. The Bailey family provided her with a loving atmosphere for her to flourish in. They adopted her as one of their own and their generosity extended throughout her life. After Annie passed away Norma stayed on to help Ray Bailey. Norma had a very quiet and gentle nature. She loved gardening and looked forward to seeing her family and grandchildren when they came to visit. She always had best wishes and, of course, treats for all. Her love of animals became even stronger when she entered St Paul's Lutheran Home in January of 2005. She would ask Grace to bring Sara, her Bichon puppy, to visit and sure enough as soon as Sara was let in the door of St. Paul's, she would find Grandma's room on her own. Whether Grandma was awake or not Sara would leap on her looking for the treat Norma was all to happy to supply. Then there was Spike, Ethan's dog. When he got to old to visit from Calgary, he would talk to grandma on the phone, and her eyes would light up with each little yip or bark at the other end of the line. In the home they had a resident Black Lab named Lucky. He never went by Norma's room without stopping for a treat. Norma never tired of watching the birds and soon adopted the yellow canary, Sunshine, from the activity department. She spent many hours talking and listening to her new room mate sing. She was predeceased by her parents Julia and William Miller; her husband Evolt and brothers, Ernie, George and Raymond; sister Lorna Juricic and sister-in-law Romona Miller. Norma leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life her children: daughter Marg (Greg) Rushka of Saltcoats and their children, Sandra Rushka (Michael Wolff) and Dean (Lisa) Rushka; daughter, Grace (Dave) Tuba of Melville and their children, Blair (Carol) Tuba and Brad (Denise) Tuba; daughter, Donna (Ray) Eckhart of Yorkton and their children, Bill (Kathy) Eckhart and Robert Eckhart; daughter, Lynn Kading (Dean Clancy) of Calgary and their son Ethan; great grandchildren; McKenzie and Kelcey Tuba, Hayden and Brooke Tuba, Rylan Rushka, Paige and Eric Eckhart; sister, Clara Kading of Saskatoon; brother, Carl (Eleanor) Miller of Melville; sisters-in-law, Olga Miller of Oshawa and Rose Miller of Esterhazy; brother-in-law, Franco Juricic of Calgary.
