Obituary of William Pawliw

Pawliw - Mr. William Pawliw of Yorkton, formerly of the Theodore district, beloved husband of Olga Pawliw entered eternal rest on March 19, 2008 at the Yorkton & district Nursing Home. He was 88 years of age. William (Bill) Pawliw was born September 9, 1919 to Mike and Mary (nee Popowich) Pawliw, the third child born into a family of nine sisters. Bill enlisted in the Armed Forces and spent time training at the Moose Jaw Base. On October 31, 1942 Bill married the love of his life, Olga Shlahetka. They traveled eleven miles to their new one room log home half a mile northeast of Theodore. Their lives focused on building a lucrative dairy and grain farming operation. They raised three children and even in difficult times, Bill provided for all his children to receive post secondary education. William helped in the community whenever he could with extra mail deliveries, hauling water for the skating ice, and many other jobs. Two things special to his heart was riding his horses and playing his fiddle. Olga and Bill enjoyed some time traveling in their retirement years. They visited Mexico, Texas, Hawaii, Arizona and the Canadian west coast. Bill Pawliw was predeceased by his parents Mike and Mary Pawliw; sister Sophie; sister Lena Biblow and her husband Mike; sister Ann Hniday and her husband Bill; grandson Colin Pawliw; brother in law John Kerelchuk, Paul Lahoda, Mike Hallowachuk and Bill Shlahetka; sister in law Anne Pasishnek and her husband Matt. William leaves his family to cherish his memory and celebrate his life; Olga, his loving wife of 65 years; daughter Iris Skehar and her husband Ed of Theodore; daughter Addie Tokarchuk and her husband Dave of Saskatoon; son Randy Pawliw and his wife Donna of Calgary. Very special to him were his grandchildren and great grandchildren - Cindy and her husband Kyle Kildaw and their daughters Alexandra and Samantha of Dalmeny, Saskatchewan; Jason and his wife Lori Skehar and their sons Tyler and Tegan of Chestermere, Alberta; Dr. Laurissa Tokarchuk and her husband Dr. Matthew Bocci of London, England; Brent Tokarchuk and his wife Dr. Natasha Crellin of San Francisco, California; Eldon Pawliw and his wife Sarah and their son Cole and daughter Julia of Calgary, Alberta; Aron Pawliw of Edmonton, Alberta; Lowen Pawliw of Calgary, Alberta; and Nowel Pawliw of Montreal, Quebec. He also leaves to rejoice in his memory numerous nieces and nephews as well as some very special friends that have visited him during his illness. Prayers were held at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home on Monday, March 24th. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton on Tuesday, March 25th with Rev. Father Frank Szadiak, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & parish choir members. The cross bearer was Cindy Kildaw and the epistle reader was Iris Skehar. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jason Skehar, Brent Tokarchuk, Eldon Pawliw, Aron Pawliw, Lowen Pawliw andNowel Pawliw serving as the casket bearers. Reflections of William's life were shared by Randy Pawliw. Xpuctoc Bockpec! Christ Is Risen! Funeral arrangements were in acre of Bailey's Funeral Home.
