Obituary of Frederick John Martin

Mr. Frederick John Martin of Ituna, SK; passed away on Friday March 14, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital, Melville, Saskatchewan. He was 85 years of age. Fred was born on the family farm north east of Ituna on April 4, 1922; a son of Irish Pioneers Isaac and Sylvia (nee Halliday) Martin. Fred received some of his education at Beaverside School and later at Stanisloff School. He quit school at an early age to help his Dad on the farm. He stayed and lived on the farm until 2006 at which time he retired and purchased a home in Ituna. Fred enjoyed looking after his cattle and a good game of cards. Another of his pastimes were gardening and driving his two cylinder John Deere tractor. He enjoyed trips to town on Fridays to shop and go for coffee with his friends and neighbours; especially his best friend Jack Hynds. Fred was predeceased by his father Isaac (1972), mother Sylvia (1989) an infant brother in 1932 and brothers - in - law: Allan Burns and Wesley Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his sisters: Sarah Burns of LaFleche, SK, Margaret Wilson of Redcliff, AB., Anne (Roy) Burns of Flintloft, SK., Sylvia (Bill) Exley of Edmonton, AB.; brothers: Isaac (Evelyn) of Ituna, SK., Robert (Elaine) of Yorkton, SK., along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The Funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon, March 19, 2008 from Lakeside United Church, Ituna, Sk; with Reverend Brian Mee officiating. Lenore Rein was the organist leading the Choir and congregation in the Hymns: "Softly And Tenderly", "Shall We Gather At The River", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just As I Am Without One Plea". The ushers were Jack Hynds and Jerry Duda with the reflections of Fred's life given by Fred Wilson. The interment followed in the family plot at the Ituna Town Cemetery with: Bill and Mike Bereziuk, Roman Rushinko, William FIlko, Joe Szarkowicz and Duane Martin serving as casket bearers. services directed by Bailey's Funeral Home Ituna and Yorkton He Troubled no one, his wants were few And now, dear Lord, he has come to you. Take care of him as he takes his rest For the one you have taken was one of the best. A cheery smile, a heart of gold He suffered much but never told.
