Obituary of D'Metre Kitz

KITZ - Mr. D'Metre "Metro" Kitz beloved husband of Mary Kitz of Ituna entered eternal rest peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Ituna Pioneer Health Centre with his family by his side. He was 89 years of age. Metro was born on November 6, 1918 at Jedburgh, Sk; a son of Fred and Anne (nee Zuk) Kitz. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Forest Nook School. He continued to work on the family farm and at other various jobs. On November 12, 1944 Metro was united in marriage to Mary Danesewich. This union was blessed with five children. They moved to the Goodeve area where they farmed rented land from his uncle. In 1958 they purchased their own homestead in the Beckenham district, north of Ituna and continued to farm until they moved to the town of Ituna in 1989. Before they retired and moved into Ituna, Metro and Mary had travelled throughout Europe exploring ten countries which was a trip that lasted a lifetime filled with wonderful memories. While in Ituna Metro couldn't really give up farming during his retirement. He would be seen in the spring and fall driving his Ford 8n tractor around town working up gardens and cutting grass. He enjoyed helping Mary in the garden and having coffee with "the Senators" (as he called his fellow coffee row friends). Metro had many passions in his life: his family, dancing and teaching his daughters how to Polka, enjoyed watching Stampede Wrestling and Hockey Night In Canada. He always had a grin and loved to laugh with and tease everyone he met. As well, Metro was involved with his church. He and Mary were active members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Transfiguration of Our Lord at Beckenham and at Sacred Heart of Jesus Ituna. Metro was also was a member of the Runnimead School Board, the Wheat Pool, and had worked for the PFRA from 1962 - 1972. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life: his loving wife of 63 years Mary. Also, seven great grandchildren: Ashley, Michael, Morgan, Alexander, Aiden, Kallie and Allysa; his brother and sisters: Bill (Anne) Kitz, Zonia Postnikoff, Janet (Ivan) Sookeroff; sister - in - law Olga Kitz along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
