Obituary of Elsie Byski

BYSKI - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Elsie Byski. On Tuesday January 29th, 2008 at 10p.m. under the wonderful care of nursing Stations 1-East & 1-West in the Yorkton Union Hospital, Mom was surrounded by the love of her husband and children as she passed into arms of the Lord at the age of 72. She was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by her parents Dora and Nick Bezborotko her brother Allen and baby sister Rose. Mom was born on the family farm in the Parkerview District on November 18th, 1935. She attended the Okno School near her home. When she was finished School, she worked on area farms in the Parkerview and Sheho area and would do all sorts of jobs from looking after families, milking cows and everyday farm chores. Mom always worked hard and was a person who never left a job half done. In 1954, she started work at the Rex Café in Foam Lake but returned to the farm. Mom married in 1955 and had 5 children. She remarried in 1974 to her Soul Mate Mike Byski. Elsie and Mike met at a dance in 1973 at the Pythian Hall in Yorkton. Dad fell in love with Mom's smile and they started dating a week later enjoying many fun filled evenings dancing at the Legion Hall. On July 27th, 1974 Elsie Bella Gorelitza and Michael William Byski were joined in Holy Matrimony at the Westview United Church with Reverend Jack Jones presiding. Mike not only became a husband but also became a father by accepting 5 young children into his life that he loves and cherishes. Over the years, his love grew stronger everyday. Settling into our new home on Irwin Avenue was an exciting time for all and started a new chapter in Mom's life. One of the things Mom was waiting for was spring so she could plant a large garden surrounded by beautiful flowers. She continued to plant her garden for 33 years with her last garden being planted in the spring of 2007. Canning was one of her favorite pastimes and the cold room looked more like a grocery store as she would can all kinds of vegetables and fruit with her specialty being cucumbers which she turned into the best pickles that one could ever eat. Mom also loved cooking for her family especially for the holidays. With Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Ukrainian Christmas being her favorite times, she always cooked enough food to feed everybody three times over and then some. One Christmas there was so much food on the kitchen table it broke in half which is a day we will all remember. As we all grew up and moved away, we always returned home with our children for the special times that brought joy, peace and happiness to her heart. Mom raised her family with good honest values always teaching us right from wrong, always protecting and shielding us from danger and Mom was always there for us when ever we need her love guidance or support. "Mom, we will always be careful, we will always look both ways, we will always remember the values that you have taught us, the advice you have given, we will take it as it comes and we will always remember your love." Elsie leaves to celebrate and cherish her memory - her husband of 33 years Mike, her 3 daughters Grace Gorelitza and Adeline Gorelitza of Saskatoon, SK. and Valerie (Don) Nerbas of Yorkton, SK; her two sons Eric Gorelitza of Regina, SK and Rick (Bonnie) Gorelitza of Martensville, SK. Elsie will miss her eight grandchildren Lindsay and Crystal Gorelitza daughters of Adeline, Terra (Ryan) Deck, Cassandra and Brady Nerbas children of Valerie and Don, Breckan Gorelitza son of Eric, Ethaniel and Elan Gorelitza children of Rick and Bonnie. Elsie also had six great grandchildren Kennedy, Kolby and Kayden Arcand daughters of Lindsay and Cory Arcand, Dylan, Tristen and Mason children of Crystal and Chuck Ellis. Mom also leaves her younger brother Elmer (Rae) Bezborotko of Theodore SK; her uncles, Harry (Lena) Hluchman of Thunder Bay, ON and Mike Marionchuck of Bangor, SK, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
