Obituary of Nick Bewcyk

BEWCYK - Nick, resident of the Crocus Court Nursing Home in Roblin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the nursing home. He was 84 years of age. Nick Bewcyk was born on June 4, 1923 in the Calder district of Saskatchewan; a son of John and Dora Bewcyk. He attended Verboska School till the age of 15, leaving to help his dad with farming. In the early fifties be bought and ran the Calder Pool Room for a few years. In the early sixties Nick bought a farm from his brother Pete. He lived there, raising cattle. After retiring from livestock, he rented his land to neighbors. He remained on the farm until he decided to spend winters in town, spending several winters in Yorkton, then in Roblin. Due to declining health he was hospitalized in the Roblin Health Centre, before being admitted to the Crocus Court Nursing Home on February 2, 2005. Nick was predeceased by his parents, John and Dora; two brothers: Pete and Bill Bewcyk; four sisters: Dora Horaska, Katie Eftoda, Margaret Hnatiuk, and Mary Onaferson; two nephews: Matt Horaska and George Hnatiuk; and two nieces: Kay Burnell and Hazel Moffit. He is survived by three sisters: Lena Swerhun and Rose Morash, both of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, and Elsie Kryworuchka of MacNutt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Craig of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock led the congregation in the singing of the hymns Amazing Grace, In the Garden, and Just A Closer Walk With Thee. The interment took place at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Gerald Kryworuchka serving as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
