Obituary of Pauline Chalupiak

CHALUPIAK - Mrs. Pauline Chalupiak of Yorkton, formerly of the Ketchen and Preeceville districts passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 5, 2007. She died peacefully with her husband William and her son Ed at her side. Pauline was born on January 4, 1923 in Rhein, SK to Tekla and John Romick. She was the fifth born of ten children. Pauline moved with her parents and siblings to the Preeceville area and later to the Ketchen district where she attended Netchie Hills School. She had fond memories of playing ball at the school. On October 18, 1941 Pauline married William Chalupiak, son of Steve and Dora (nee Baron) at Chechow Church. Pauline and William began mixed farming north of Ketchen. They sold the farm and then resided in Preeceville for a couple of years, and in 1972 they moved to Yorkton. While in Yorkton, Pauline enjoyed attending dances and playing cards regularly with her husband and friends at New Horizon's Senior Centre. They were active members of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. In October, 2006 Pauline and William celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. Pauline was very active all her life. This spring, as usual, she planted her garden and spent many hours carefully tending it. Pauline enjoyed cooking, knitting and providing hospitality to family and friends who were always close to her heart. A plaque on her kitchen wall states: "Let all guests be received as Christ" These were words she lived by. Pauline was predeceased by her parents Tekla and John Romick; brothers Paul, Peter and Billy; and sisters Helen Petrowski and Mary Chalupiak. Pauline leaves to cherish her memory husband William and their four children: son Orest (Diane) of Calgary and children Daren and Shannon; daughter Joan (Les) Galandy of Calgary and children Kevin, Shawn and Dion; son Ed (Christine) of Regina and children Mark, Kyle and Alison; and daughter Sharon of Winnipeg. She is survived by three sisters: Ann Matlock of Edmonton; Bella Gulka of Yorkton; Joyce (Ralph) Bjerke of Edmonton; and one brother Joe Romick of Ketchen. Pauline is also survived by 8 grandchilden and 5 great grandchildren: Daren (Shannon) Chalupiak and son Alex; Kevin (Mary) Galandy and children Jennifer & Rachel; Shawn (Paula) Galandy and children Joshua & Paige; Dion (Karen) Galandy and children Jacob & Tessa; Mark (Rhonda) Chalupiak; Kyle (Carmen) Chalupiak; and granddaughters Shannon and Alison Chalupiak. Prayers were held on Friday, June 8th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Very Rev. Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R. officiating. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, June 9th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita, and parish choir members. The epistle reader & cross bearer was Mark Chalupiak. The banner bearers were Anna Gulka and Anne Achtemichuk. "All Pauline's friends & relatives" were considered honourary bearers. Reflections of Pauline's life were shared by Johnnie Matlock. The interment took place at the Preeceville Town Cemetery with Kyle Chalupiak, Daren Chalupiak, Shannon Chalupiak, Alison Chalupiak, Shawn Galandy and Dion Galandy serving as the casket bearers.
