Obituary of Peter Perpeluk

Perpeluk - Mr. Peter Perpeluk beloved husband of Elizabeth (Elsie) of the Wroxton district of Saskatchewan entered eternal rest on Tues. November 21, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Center at the age of 82 years. Peter was born on July 10, 1924 on the family farm in the Wroxton district of Saskatchewan; a son of Fred and Katie ( nee Buchinski) Perepeluk. Peter attended Charkoff school and as well worked on the family farm. In 1946 Peter purchased his own land. During this time he had met Elizabeth Shewchuk and they were married on November 18, 1948. As well as operating a cattle and grain farm Peter found winter employment in Vancouver in 1955 in the shipyards where he was a grain handler and during some winters cleared the bush in the north country for building roads. Eventually Peter's son joined him in the farming operations in 1986 and has continued to this day. Although Peter in the last number of years found that he could no longer work to his expectations he always had a hand in all of the operations even if it was just visiting with his sons. Peter was a devoted man to his faith and the churches that he was a parishoner; and sang in the Church Choirs. He served as President of St. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church as well as Sts. Peter and Paul in Wroxton His love of St. Vladimir and Olga found him renovating the church spending time and his energy, desiring to make it as beautiful as it once was. Although it was his "Project" he had many others that had helped him and he was always thankful and thanks all of those that contributed. In his younger days Peter was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing baseball, curling and hockey. When Peter was older he loved to watch these sports taking in a few Oiler games when he would visit his family in Edmonton. As well, even though farming was his livelihood he enjoyed the farm life. His family was a special part of his life, spending his time traveling with Elsie visiting with them and the grandchildren that they loved. Peter leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his loving wife of 58 years Elizabeth. His children and their families: Patrick (Carol) of St. Albert, AB., Dean (Leah) of St. Albert, AB. Marie (Peter) of Edmonton, AB, Beverly Perpeluk of Edmonton, AB. Valerie (John) Gunn - Fowlie of Edmonton, AB, Corey of Edmonton, Clarence Perpeluk of Wroxton, SK., Adele (Tom) Nielsen ,Geoffrey (Danielle) and Lewis all of Edmonton, AB., Tim (Kim), Jake, Rebecca all of Yorkton, SK. Also a brother William (Mary) of Yorkton, SK. and sister Irene (Tony ) Lantz of Edmonton, AB.; brother - in - law John Galye; and sister - in - law; Edna Perepeluk Peter was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Mike, Walter, Freddie, Steve, Metro; sisters: Annie Perpeluk, Joyce Galye; sisters and brothers - in - law: Mona and Fred Wickner, Francis and Fred Stark and Mickey North. The prayer service was held on Friday evening, November 24, 2006 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday morning, November 25, 2006 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Reverend Father Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. The responses to the Liturgy were sung by Ed Pindus and Colette Karapita and members of the parish choir. The Epistle reader was Marie Perpeluk witn Jake and Rebecca Perpeluk serving as Cross bearers. John Galye, William Perpeluk, William Shewchuk, Emil Strutynski, Walter Wintonyk, Mervin Yakubowski, Ed Horkoff and Andrew Tataryn were Honourary Bearers. The memorial luncheon followed the Divine Liturgy with reflections of Peter's life given by his family. Following the luncheon a prayer service was held at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Cathoiic Church Wroxton with the interment at the parish cemetery; Corey Gunn - Fowlie, Mark Perepeluk, Geoffrey Nielsen, Dean Perpeluk, Lewis Nielsen and Willie Shewchuk served as Casket Bearers. In memory of Peter memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Sts. Vladimir and Olga Renovation fund as gifts of remembrance.
