Obituary of Alice Poier

Mrs. Alice Helen Poier beloved wife of Arnold of Yorkton; passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at tthe Yorkton Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. She wsa 85 years of age. Alice was born in Wordsworth, Sk. on October 28, 1921 to Otto and Ottilie (nee Luetke) Schendel. She received her education at Wordsworth, and served as organist at the Lutheran Church for many years until her family moved to Dropmore, Manitoba in 1941. The family attended the Lutheran Church at Landestreu where Alice was organist and where she met Arnold Poier. They were united in marriage on November 19, 1942. The couple were blessed with two children: Joan and Douglas and moved to Yorkton in 1948 where Alice excelled at her role as a wonderful homemaker and loving wife and mother. Later she enjoyed being an Avon representative and salesperson for the Hudson Bay Company and was involved in community service work with Arnold namely: the Canadian Cancer Society and the TB Assoc. Alice and Arnold enjoyed many happy years at their favorite place, their home at Madge Lake. Alice struggled for many years with Osteoporosis and it's complications. She was predeceased by her parents: Otto and Ottilie Schendel; in - laws: George and Mary Poier; sisters: Edna (George) Schaan, Doris (Ted) Kauffeld; a brother Eitel Schendel; brother-in-law Elmer Poier and sister-in-law Cleone Ferridge. Alice leaves to mourn her passing and lovingly cherish her memory her husband of 63 years, Arnold. Her daughter Joan (Ivan) Dreger of Regina, and son Douglas (Loreen) Poier of Yorkton. Also 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; brother Edward (Marjean) Schendel of Regina; sisters-in-law: Frieda Schendel,of Calgary, Marveline Poier of Regina; brothers-in-law: John Ferridge of Saskatoon, Roland (Gertie) Poier of Prince Albert, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A service of comfort for family and friends was held on Monday evening, November 13, 2006 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, 2006 from Zion Lutheran Church Yorkton, Sask. with Reverend Daniel Moeller officiating. The organist was Verna Liebrecht leading the congregation in the Hymns: "Jesus Lover Of My Soul" and " I Am But A Stranger Here"; with the Hymn, " Beyond The Sunset" being sung by Norm Graff. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with: Alan Dreger, Dale and Glenn Poier, Don Ferridge, Dean Schendel and Jordon McGillivray serving as Casket Bearers.
