Obituary of Velma Clarke

CLARKE - Velma Kathrine Clarke was born on May 11, 1927 in the Stornoway district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of George and Elizabeth (nee Mehling) Liebrecht. She was raised on the family farm and attended Clyde School. As a young woman, Velma continued to help on the farm until 1965, when she and her mother moved into Yorkton. Velma continued to care for her mother but began working at the Yorkton Union Hospital, where she was employed in the house-keeping department for over 22 years. On June 7, 1975 she was united in marriage to William Clarke. Velma continued to work at the hospital until her retirement in 1992. In November of 1996 Bill passed away. In declining health the past couple of years, Velma passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 79 years of age. Velma was a hard-working individual who put others before herself. She was kind hearted and good natured and enjoyed the company of others. She did handi- work in her spare time, and enjoyed growing a large and bountiful garden each year. Predeceased by her husband William; father George and mother Elizabeth; a brother, Helmuth Liebrecht; three sisters: Alma Guenther, Helen White, and Ella Tillman; and by a niece, Connie Tillman. She leaves to cherish her memory; a brother Ewald and his wife Verna Liebrecht of Rhein; and a sister Erna and her husband Ed Tillman of Springside, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Monday, October 9, 2006 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Rev. Daniel Moeller officiated, with assistance from Vicar Will Cole. Organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Children of the Heavenly Father', 'Abide With Me', and 'Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me'. Soloist, Ewald Liebrecht sang 'Until Then'. The interment took place in the Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Garry Tillman, Randy Tillman, Garry Liebrecht, Tim Liebrecht, Doug Bailey, and Jan Hartridge serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
