Obituary of Leo Pawliw
Mr. Leo Pawliw of Ituna beloved companion of Carol Vachon entered eternal rest at St. Peter's Hospital Melville, Sask. on Monday, May 22, 2006 at the age of 72 years. Leo was born on the farm in the Ituna District on February 22, 1934, a son of Alex and Mary (Woloshyn) Pawliw. He attended school in Ituna and at the age of fifteen started farming with his dad. They farmed together until Alex died in 1952 and at this time Leo and his mother Mary decided to continue on the farm. Leo's brother Joe stayed on the farm with them for four years before he decided to head to the city to work. In 1969 Mary died and Leo decided farming was what he was meant to do. In 1980 Leo downsized his farming operation and just kept the home quarter. Due to failing health in 2002 Leo decided it was time to rent out the land. Even though he was unable to do the work himself he continued to live on the farm that he loved. Leo was employed in a butcher shop for seven years in the early 80's. He worked for other farmers in the area during the busy times of the year. He was a hardworking man all of his life and if you needed a hand he was always willing to help out. You knew when Leo left his garage door open he was home and was inviting visitors to stop in. The coffee pot was always on. He had a special relationship with his many nieces and nephews and never hesitated to stop what he was doing to enjoy a visit with them. Leo was predeceased by his parents, infant son Trent, brothers Mike, Joseph, Peter, Walter and Alex. He leaves to celebrate his life his partner Carol Vachon, sisters Emily (Joe) Tymiak, Anne Sikorski, Evelyn Wolbaum, Mary (Peter) Anderson, Janet (Eberhard) Hahn, Pauline (Eugene) Leschyshyn, Julie Martens, Helen (Philip) Antonishyn, Frances (Des) Hamilton, Sophie (Clair) Beach and brother Emil as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayer service was held on Thursday evening, May 25, 2006 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Ituna, Saskatchewan. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday morning May 26, 2006 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Cafholic Church with Very Reverend Father Borys Kyba C.Ss.R. as Celebrant.
