Obituary of Fredrick Egilsson

Egilsson- Mr. Fred Egilsson, resident of the Bentley Retirement Community passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a short illness. He was 81 years of age. Frederick Gisili Hannes Egilsson, known affectionately as Freddie, was born on April 17, 1925 in the Calder district of Saskatchewan; a son of Hannes and Helga Egilsson. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Minerva School. At an early age Fred began farming. On June 12, 1952 he was united in marriage to Pauline Pryslak at Yorkton. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Calder district for close to 40 years before retiring to Yorkton in 1991. Here Fred and Pauline settled into retirement time by tending to their yard and garden. The couple enjoyed bowling, Pauline kept busy with her crafts and their many friends. Fred will be remembered for his sense of humor and community. While on the farm and then in Yorkton, Fred and Pauline were active in the United Church, at Calder and then at St. Andrew's in Yorkton. Pauline predeceased Fred on October 27, 2002. Shortly thereafter, Fred took up residence at the Bentley Manor in January of 2003. He greatly enjoyed the friendships made there, the activities offered and the company of the other residents for the past three years. Besides Pauline, Fred was also predeceased by his father Hannes (1964), mother Helga (1981); two sisters: Dora Logan (1972) and Thea Kowula (1987); and by three brothers: Paul (infancy), David (1985) and Jon (1991). He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Brenda Egilsson of Saskatoon; as well as numerous other relatives of the Egilsson and Pryslak families. The funeral service was held on Monday, April 24, 2006 from St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton. Rev. Art Cross officiated. Mervin Pryslak gave the eulogy. Organist Shani Apland led the members of the church choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns "Now Thank We All Our God", "The Lord Is My Sheperd", and "Give To Us Laughter". The interment took place at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Donald Logan, David, Grant, Allan and Stephen Egilsson and Glen Pryslak serving as casket bearers.
