Obituary of Lillian Eremko
EREMKO - Lillian Eremko, resident of the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy, formerly of Yorkton, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2006. She was 90 years of age. Lillian Eremko was born on August 20, 1915 at Saltcoats, a daughter to Alexander and Katherine (nee Pitts) Eremko. Lillian attended both elementary and high School in Yorkton. She attended Normal School in Saskatoon, living at the home of her Aunt Helen and Uncle John Hnatyshyn. Lillian first taught school at Two Creeks, Saskatchewan, a rural school near Wroxton. She also taught at Hursh, Bienfait and spent the last twenty-nine years of her career teaching at Valleyview School in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Lillian was a dedicated teacher, touching the lives of hundreds of young beginning students. She was a trusted colleague, a credit to the Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation. After her retirement from the teaching profession in 1971, Lillian made her move to 54 James Ave. in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in order to live with and help her mother, Katherine. Lillian tended a large garden and yard, took pleasure in re-decorating her home and continued to prove her skills in the kitchen (including the Ukrainian Christmas Eve and Easter specialties). Lillian was always a generous, thoughtful gift giver, putting everyone else before herself. She was a good friend to many, offering a welcome smile and an open door. Lillian's faith was strong. She was an active supporter of both St. Paul's United Church in Estevan and St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton. Lillian found strength, companionship and peace in her Christian devotion. Lillian passed away quietly on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at the Centennial Special Care Home on James St. in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. She was ninety years, four months and twenty-two days of age. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Katherine Eremko; her brother, John; sister-in-law, Irene; brothers-in-law, Steven and Maxwell. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Mary Windjack of Flin Flon, MB and Dorothy Park of Rocanville, SK; nieces, Linda Park and Judith Johnston; nephews, John Windjack, Matthew Eremko, Herb Park and their families. Lillian leaves us with fond, loving memories of a life well lived. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Jeri Bjornson of St. Andrew's United Church officiated. Organist, Marilyn Newell led the congregation in the singing of the hymns In the Garden, and Softly and Tenderly.
