Sonya Muzyka

Obituary of Sonya Jean Muzyka

The family of Sonya Muzyka of Theodore, SK. and formerly of Tonkin, Sk, beloved wife of the late Teddy Muzyka sadly announce her passing on April 18, 2023.

A private family Funeral Service was held.

Sonya Muzyka was born Nov. 16, 1941 and passed away peacefully at Theodore Care Home on April 18, 2023. She was 81. Sonya was raised in the Preeceville area by her parents Gus & Helen (J) Johnson. She had three brothers Roy, Bert, Al and one sister Inez. She lived in a few more places in SK & AB before moving to Theodore. She lived in Tonkin, SK for many years.

Mom married Ted Muzyka on Sept. 16, 1967. They raised four children, Cory, Gary & Gail (twins) and Lisa. They were blessed with grandson Mark & granddaughter MacKenzie. She treasured her family and all her pets too.

She loved to sit outside and watch the pets play and all the wildlife pass by. I can still see mom and dad having coffee on the deck as they’d watch us kids and grandkids swim in their backyard pool. These are the most happy, peaceful times we will always treasure. We enjoyed going for walks, going uptown for a treat, going for rides to see the Christmas lights and enjoying Mother Nature. We loved to go on walks, chat on the phone, cook & bake together, and go on camping trips. We loved gardening, playing cards & board games, picking Saskatoons, holiday decorating, watching t.v, music and going to drive-inns.

The traditions of watching us kids school concerts and play ball were carried on with their grandchildren (along with many activities). Growing up we’d visit our many relatives and our friends, the Northrops. We always shared a good meal and a few cups of coffee.

Sonya was well cared for by the staff at the care home. She enjoyed many activities with the residents such as; looking at Christmas lights, bingos, crafts, an indoor drive-thru and many more. We enjoyed an Easter meal with her. This was very nice. Our hearts melted when we’d see her face light up when she saw and heard from her loved ones. We loved doing mom’s nails and she loved getting her hair done. We loved to decorate her room.

When she heard the song “You Are My Sunshine”, she would always sing along. This was the first song she sang to us as kids and sang to her grandkids when they were little.

The Christmas before she moved to Theodore, the whole family gathered at Tonkin to celebrate. Mom made her famous cabbage rolls. She was a terrific cook! We made buns, turkey and all the trimmings. We enjoyed opening our gifts after our meal.

We’d greet with a hug and a kiss and it was the same when we left. Always “Love You Mom”, “Love You Gramma”. She loved us with all her heart as we all loved her.

Sonya is predeceased by her husband, Teddy, her parents Helen (Jean) & Gus Johnson, her brother Roy, her sister Inez. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, sons Cory & Gary (his partner Natasha and her son Matt), daughters Gail & Lisa, her grandchildren Mark & MacKenzie (their mother Brenda). Also, her brother Bert (wife Alice & their family), brother Al (and his family), her friends the Northrop’s, nieces, nephews, good neighbors, pets and many friends.

She’s loved and will forever be missed. We were so blessed to have this special lady in our lives.
