Obituary of Shirley Ann Onufreychuk

The family of Shirley Onufreychuk, beloved mother of Carmen and Curtis, sadly announce her passing on May 11, 2023. Shirley was 75 years of age.

Memorial donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Assocition as gifts of remembrance.

Shirley Ann Woroshelo was born on June 6, 1947 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan to Frank and Mary Woroshelo. Shirley attended Deer Creek Elementary School and thereafter graduated from Foam Lake Composite Highschool in 1966. On October 24, 1966, Shirley was accepted into the University of Regina  Teacher’s Education Program wherein she completed the program in May of 1968 at which time she was offered and accepted a teaching position at Kandahar School. In June of 1969, Shirley transferred to the Foam Lake School Division to teach in Division I and II full-time for the next 6 years. While raising her family, Shirley continued to teach in a substitute capacity. She also kept busy driving school bus for the Shamrock School Division.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and maintaining the homestead, crocheting, and reading. She lived on the farm until she moved to Sheho in 1992 and then moved to Yorkton in 1997.

During her time in Yorkton, she worked for SIGN and V.P.P. Shirley also enjoyed visiting her daughter and her grandchildren and often traveled to see them in which she attended dance competitions for her granddaughters and football games for her grandson. Shirley treasured and loved her family dearly.

Shirley was a cherished mom, grandmother, and good friend who could always be relied on. She was always giving a helping hand to her neighbours and her kindness to everyone was greatly appreciated.

Shirley will be remembered by her daughter, Carmen (Ken) Sokochoff; grandchildren, Peyton Sokochoff, Kenna Sokochoff, Dylan Sokochoff; sisters Elaine (Rudy) Onufreychuk and Gloria (Harvey) Hawreluik as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her son, Curtis (Pam) Onufreychuk and grandson, Roland Onufreychuk.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Woroshelo.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family.
