Nettie Bates

Obituary of Nettie Bates

Nettie Bates (nee Pryslak) passed away on June 11, 2023 at the Canora Gateway Lodge. She was 94 years of age.

Nettie was born on the farm in Calder, Sask, July 14, 1928. She was the seventh child of Alex & Mary Pryslak.

She attended Torsk School and later helped on the farm. She then worked at the Monarch Lumber company of Calder for 2 years.

Nettie married Michael A. Elaschuk October 30, 1948. They were married for 25 years and were blessed with two children Sharon 1955 and Wayne 1960. They lived and ran a thriving business at Wroxton Corner until Michael's passing October 10, 1973. Nettie continued to run the Corner a number of years by herself but she seemed to have quite a few power issues and met a real nice Sask Power man to help her out.

Nettie married Thomas Bates October 5, 1976. They resided in Yorkton and she worked at the Yorkton Regional Hospital canteen/gift shop. She was a long time member of the Wroxton Greek Orthodox Church and later the Yorkton Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Nettie was a talented baker and cook where everyone enjoyed everything that came out of her kitchen. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening, travelling and playing cards. Family was most important to her and she wanted the best for everyone. She was a caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend with a sly sense of humour who will be forever missed.

Nettie is survived by her son in law Borden Kishalowich, daughter in law MaryAnne Elaschuk, 2 grandson's Dean Kishalowich (great grandson’s Dylan & Kohl) and Brent (Tara) Kishalowich (great grandson Cade), grandaughter Aimee (Bret) Sherstabitoff, step daughters Candace MacLeod, Penny (Dave) Perpeluk, Brenda Anthony, Patti Kingery, step son Kevin (Cathy) Bates, sister in law Judy Pryslak and many nieces and nephews.

Nettie was predeceased by husband Michael, daughter Sharon, son Wayne, husband Thomas, sisters Margaret, Anne, Irene, Sylvia, Marian, Betty, Pauline, brother Mervin and son in law Matthew.
