Obituary of Donald "Don" Meadows

It's with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Donald Charles Meadows who left us the morning of December 26, 2021, at the age of 71. He was born on September 10, 1950, in High River Alberta. He was the 5th child of Charlie and Muriel Meadows. Don had attended elementary school in Mossleigh and high school in Vulcan, Alberta. Don married his first wife in 1969 where they started their lives in Calgary Alberta and they had four children Tracy, Darren (deceased) Clarke and Christopher. Don and his family farmed in the county of Vulcan, north of Blackie Alberta. They then moved to Bankend Saskatchewan where they spent many years. They moved to Yorkton Saskatchewan in 1987. Don had lived in a few places after leaving Yorkton and his final residence was in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Don was a truck driver who enjoyed his job. Don’s favourite passion was his dogs. Don always had a dog by his side and while trucking. His heart was as big as one could be for his puppies. The love he had for his children was immense. He was always so happy to spend time with them and loved when they came to the nursing home to see him. Don was a huge basketball and baseball fan. He had a great pitching arm and taught his kids to play both sports. He also was a big Roughrider fan. You would see him scooting around the home in his chair with rider “man cave” plate on the back. Then there was the love of shortbread cookies. He always had the biggest smile on his face when he was brought homemade shortbread. Don, like his father, taught his children and grandchildren how to play the game of dice. After his stroke he and his grandchildren played it many times with many laughs, and he usually managed to beat them often. Don suffered a stroke about 10 years ago, which left him paralyzed on the left side. Some would view his stroke as a set back, while he viewed it as an opportunity to live the best life he could moving forward. Which he did. His last years were spent in the Sherbrooke Nursing home in Saskatoon where he was the life of the party amongst the residents. He was loved by them greatly and he always made them laugh. Not only did the staff and residents see his softer side but his family did too. From management to aids they all had a story to share about Don and his silly ways. He will be greatly missed by his children Tracy and her children Daniel and Kelli. Clarke (Tania) and their children Katelyn, Emma and Claire and Christopher (Cheree) and their children Adonis, Cooper and Kira. He leaves behind his siblings Pat, Charlene and David. He is predeceased by his parents Charlie and Muriel, his siblings, Barb and Leona. He will also be dearly missed by his friends at Sherbrooke Nursing Home. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Sherbrooke for their care and compassion. The family would also like to send a special thank you to Baileys Funeral home and their staff for showing such love and kindness to us and our father in his last moments with us. The close family will be having a memorial for him in the summer to honor his wishes. Service Details.
