Obituary of Marian Smart

The family of the Late Marian Smart of Melville, widow of  John Smart sadly announce her passing on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Marian was 76 years of age.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 1:00p.m. from First United Church, Melville with Reverend Brian Mee presiding.

Memorial donations in memory of Marian may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Marian Grace (née Tkachuk) Smart was born on March 12,1947 to Steve and Millie (née Vera) Tkachuk on the family farm near Gronlid, Saskatchewan, and passed away on July 26, 2023 at the age of 76 in Melville, Saskatchewan.

Marian married John Smart on September 15, 1966 in Melfort and together they had two children, Kevin and Shelly. Marian and John farmed by Fenwood until they retired to Melville in 2002. Marian was devoted to her family and loved spending time with family and friends.

Marian enjoyed gardening, baking, canning and preserving. She loved to display at local horticultural shows, and received many awards. Marian enjoyed selling baking and canning at the local farmers markets and visiting with her many faithful customers. Marian also enjoyed growing flowers and doing crafts like crocheting, embroidery, and cross-stitching. Marian’s most memorable traits were her sense of humor, teasing nature, and great sense of caring for all that crossed her path.

Marian was predeceased by her parents, brothers Bob, Orest, Harry, Keith, and Jack; brothers-in-law, Walter Caruk and Pete Plunkett and her husband John. Marian will be lovingly remembered by her children Kevin (Barbara) and his children Alissa (Kyle), Dylan, and Chelsea, Shelly (Blaine) Treleaven and their daughter Lexi; her sisters Nettie Caruk, Sylvia (Pete) Safaric, and Iris Plunkett; brothers Taras (Mervi), and Jerry; and sisters-in-law. Barb Tkachuk, Linda Tkachuk, Carol Tkachuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
