Obituary of Isabel Windjack

       The family of Isabel Windjack of Yorkton, beloved wife of the late Willie Windjack sadly announce her passing on August 21, 2023. Isabel was born on September 9, 1938, to Wasyl and Wasselina (nee Kereluke) Maxemniuk in Yorkton Union Hospital. Isabel attended school in Insinger until Grade 9. Isabel attended Grade 10 in Milden, SK and completed the rest of her schooling at Foam Lake Composite High School. After completing school, Isabel worked for East Milden Telephone Company for four years as a telephone operator.

 

     On October 16, 1959, Isabel met and married Willie Windjack and settled in the Beaverdale District for two years. They then moved north of Theodore and farmed for 28 years. Due to Willie’s ill health, in 1990, they moved to Insinger. Isabel and Willie raised six foster children: Murray, John, Nick, Garry, Cliff, and Randy.

 

     Isabel’s hobbies included cross stitch, crocheting, reading, and gardening. Isabel also served as a counselor for the town of Insinger, as well as being a member of the community hall in Insinger. Isabel was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Insinger, where she served as secretary treasurer for over 20 years. Isabel was also a janitor for the Insinger Post Office for three years, as well as working as a babysitter. Isabel was involved in organizing the Insinger School reunion in 1998 and foresaw the building of the cairn present on school grounds.

 

     Isabel moved to Queen Elizabeth Court on August 26, 2006, and became the secretary of the Tennant Association on March 28, 2007, then treasurer of the Tennant Association in 2010, which she served as for three years.

 

     Isabel is predeceased by her husband, Willie, who passed away on February 2, 1997; her father, Wasyl, in 1970; her mother, Wasselina, in 1993; brothers Harold in 1932 and William in 1984; sister Adella Feniuk Campbell in March of 2007.

 

     Left to cherish her memory her son, Wade; daughter, Holly (Gerald); grandchildren: Amber (Jordan) Tian, Megan (Trey) Windjack, and Nathan, Todd, and Dustin Nelson; great-grandchildren Briella and Jasper Tian; foster children: Murray, Nick, John, Cliff, Garry, and Randy; brother-in-law Orest (Gail) Windjack; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

    Prayers were held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 and the Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 25, 2023, both from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. The interment followed in the Insinger Town Cemetery with Ken Karmaznuik, Ron Bilokreli, Darcy Slowski, Todd Nelson, Darko Maljik   and Nathan Nelson serving as casket bearers. Memorial donations may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre
