Obituary of David Owen
David Lynn Owen was born on August 14th, 1946 to Edward (Ted) Owen and Ellen (Nell) Owen (nee Quinton) of the Jedburgh district.
On December 21, 1965, David married Maybelle Merriman. They had two children, Larry and Colleen. They resided in Saskatoon until 1976 before moving to Wynyard where they resided until his passing on August 26, 2023 at the age of 77.
David attended public and high school at Jedburgh and Ituna. He received his teaching certificate in 1966 and taught at the Asquith High School for seven years. During this time, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree (1968) and his Education degree (1970).
David returned to the University of Saskatchewan in 1973 and enrolled in the College of Law. After receiving his law degree in 1976, David practiced law in Wynyard until 1993. Following that he worked as a financial advisor, and in the last 15 years reduced his business involvement and spent more time travelling and enjoying other outdoor activities.
For the last twenty years, David and Maybelle spent winters at a second home in Mesa, Arizona.
As a teenager David made a vow to serve God and he kept that vow all his life.
David was predeceased by his parents, Ted (2002) and Nell (2007); his brother Neil (1983); his father-in-law Horace (Dick) Merriman (1949) and his wife Nina (1991); and three brothers-in-law, Emil Chalupiak (2019), Joseph Merriman (2019), and Clarence Bagg (2003).
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maybelle of Wynyard; his son, Larry (Jane) of Saskatoon, his daughter Colleen (Barry) Bergquist of Wynyard; his five grandchildren, Laura Owen of Abbotsford, BC, Emily (Clay) Simmonds, Andrew (Danaka) Owen, Maria Owen all of Saskatoon, and Matthew Bergquist and his fiancé Elizabeth Berenik of Saskatoon.
