Marian Belitsky

Obituary of Marian Belitsky

BELITSKY – Marian Belitsky beloved wife of Brian Belitsky of Yorkton passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. She was 66 years of age.

Marian was born on February 28, 1957, to Julius and Sophie (Tkachuk) Sushetski in Canora, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm north of Buchanan in the Olesha Church district. She attended grade school in Buchanan and eventually graduating in Yorkton. In her youth she helped on the family farm growing up with her three siblings.  On June 25, 1977, Marian married her soulmate, Brian Belitsky at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canora. They eventually settled in Yorkton on Henderson Drive, where they raised their two children, Melissa and Clint. She enjoyed many years in the neighbourhood with many friends and having her parents a couple blocks away.

Marian worked many jobs while raising her two children. Once the kids grew up a little bit, she worked hard at her passion of helping others and getting into the medical reception field as a Clinic Assistant. She was so proud and honoured to settle in at the Doctors office, eventually named Sunrise Health and Wellness Centre, where she flourished taking care of all “her patients” and building so many great friendships. Many of whom have recently reached out about how they loved seeing Marian and felt like she was part of their family when they came to the doctor's office.

Marian enjoyed traveling with Brian to her favourite places many times: Hawaii, Palm Springs, and doing the Panama Canal on a cruise. Her family trips continued, including a recent winter ski trip to Fernie with her four grandchildren. Marian cherished watching them play in many hockey and baseball games, track and field, Tae Kwon Do, kayaking, or just playing at the beach. Her favourite grandchildren's past time was being on the boat fishing, hitting the sand dunes at Good Spirit, or ice fishing.

Marian was best known for taking care of others. She especially loved caring for her 97-year-old mother Sophie – talking to her twice a day – and attending mass at St. Gerards, running errands, or just visiting in the afternoons. She always made sure everyone around her was fed, watered, or just listened to. She enjoyed hosting Christmas and Easter dinners that were always bursting with so many plates, including her classic dishes of cheesy macaroni, meatballs, and of course the traditional perogies and cabbage rolls, always with a side of at least three types of salads.

Marian’s main focus was getting to retirement and having a small pension, while looking forward to spending time watching her grandkids grow up. She planned on travelling to Europe with Brian to see the Pope, which was cancelled twice due to covid and then her cancer diagnosis – which happened shortly after her retirement and celebrating 45 years of marriage. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in June of 2022. In typical Marian fashion she fought hard for just over a year, overcoming the Whipple surgery, chemo and radiation. She spent her final months fishing, watching grandkids sports, gardening, and spending time visiting with so many family and friends.

Marian was predeceased by her father Julius. She will be remembered and cherished by her husband Brian; children Melissa (Tyson) Klapak and Clint (Lynsey) Belitsky; grandchildren Emilee and Xander Klapak and Beckett and Whitney Belitsky; Loving Mother Sophie Sushetski; Brother Tony (Diane) Sushetski; Sister Nadine (Ted) Yashcheshen; Connie (Bob) Johnson; Sister In-laws Joanne (Lyle) Godneir and Shelley (Brian) Kalin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that were like family to her.

Funeral Mass was held on Monday, September 18, 2023 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Sathiadas Antony officiating. Clint Belitsky, and Melissa Klapak delivered the tribute.  Anthony Sushetski served as the cross bearer. Bryce Godenir and Emilee Klapak gave the scripture readings.
