Maxine Winichuk was born on April 8, 1965 to Joseph J and Joyce (Mullen) Winichuk at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville. At birth, Maxine lacked oxygen, which caused her to suffer developmental difficulties. Despite her disability, Maxine was her own person. Her early years were filled with endless energy and giggles. Although Max was non-verbal she communicated her happiness with squeaks, squeals and smiles. Maxine knew what she liked or disliked. Her expressive eyes let one know her feelings. Anything soft, warm and cuddly were also favorites. She really loved her coffee and chocolate. Max enjoyed getting out for special weekly car rides with mom and dad.
It was truly a saving grace and blessing when she moved into the Ann Cameron Group Home at the age of 12 shortly after the group home opened in 1976 and she attended Rail City. We are so grateful for all the wonderful caregivers that assisted Max during her 28 year stay. In 2008 due to a broken ankle she then moved to St. Paul Lutheran Home. Maxine entered her eternal rest on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 58 years.
Predeceased by her parents Joseph J Winichuk and Joyce (Mullen) Winichuk Kosa, step father Albert Kosa, grandparents and brother Lewis (Butch) Winichuk.
Maxine is survived by her loving sister Linda Pegg of Okotoks, AB (Joe and Christan); and loving brother and sister in law Wayne and Debbie Winichuk of Edmonton, AB. (Christopher and Amanda and Families), as well as other relatives and special friends like Betty Meeko.
We are so grateful for the love and attention Maxine has received from her Caregivers at Ann Cameron Group Home and St. Paul's Lutheran Home and St. Peter's Hospital Doctors and Nurses throughout her journey. God bless you all.
Rest well sweet Maxine in the arms of Jesus. We love you forever.
