Obituary of Clayton Ward

Clayton Dennis Ward was born on January 18th, 1951 in Roblin, Manitoba. Clayton passed away with his family by his side at the age of 72 from dementia.

Clayton married the love of his life Shirley Pelletier on December 23, 1972. They had three children, Dennis, Chris and Jamie and as well helped raise his grandchildren. His wife, children and grandchildren/great grandchildren were very dear to him.

Clayton was known for his wise cracks to everyone. He enjoyed spending time with family playing cards, fishing, hunting, ball and cooking for his family.

Clayton worked in Northern communities building houses for several years. Clayton was always involved in Metis politics in one way or another. He was the Metis Senator for ERIIA until the time of his passing.

Clayton was predeceased by his parents Joe and Irene Ward (nee Bercier); brother Henry Ward; brother-in-law Harold Duffy SR; grandson Christian Ward; grand daughter Gabriella Ward; nieces Catherine Ward, Giselle Bercier and nephew Kristopher Duffy.

Clayton leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Shirley Ward; his sons Dennis, Christopher and Jamie, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister Flora Duffy, children Angela, Harold, Katherine and families; sister Valerie (Raymond) Bercier, daughters Michelle, Terri and families; his brother Albert (Linda) Ward, daughter Kirsten and family as well as numerous extended family and friends.

The Wake began on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from Prairie Harvest Community Centre. The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Sathiadas Antony as Celebrant. The cross bearer was Carter Ward. Accompanist Diana Hornung led the church choir and congregation in the hymns. The honorary casket bearers were all of Clayton’s godchildren, Jason Maisey, Richard Roussin, Dennis Langan, Gale Pelletier and the staff at the Painted Hand Casino. The casket bearers were Eric Langan, Jeremiah Pelletier, Jeremy Langan, Brandon Pelletier, Nicholas Cantelo-Ward and Michael Roussin. The interment of cremated remains was held on Friday, October 27, 2023 from the Yorkton City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the CNIB or to the Alzheimer Society as gifts of remembrance.
