Obituary of Dorothy Klause

Dorothy Jane Klause, age 90 of Saltcoats, SK, beloved wife of the late Art Klause, passed away on October 21, 2023 at the Lakeside Manor.

Dorothy was born in Loon Lake, SK to Phillip and Eleanor Becker on April 28, 1933. Her father was a Lutheran Pastor and for the next several years they moved to Leader and Broadview serving several churches in their various district. Pastor Becker then transferred to Yorkton where Dorothy went to Dr. Brass Collegiate for high school, graduating with distinction age 16.  After high school she went to work at the Royal Bank while waiting to enroll in either nursing or teaching which required her to be older. She married Art Klause in 1953 and the city girl moved to the farm to milk cows, plant a huge garden, feed pigs and sheep. She farmed alongside Art for several years and worked part time at the Saltcoats Co-op and eventually to Saskatchewan Crop Insurance. She loved her work at the insurance company beginning in 1976 and retiring in 1989. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, baking, gardening and traveling. She was actively involved in church life at Zion Lutheran Yorkton including choir and as organist.

She is survived by her son, Brenton, his wife Judy and their sons, Mark and Adam; and her son Blair and his partner Theresa.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at the Manor for the excellent care they provided to their mother.

The Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 27, 2023 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Kai Buck of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Pianist Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the hymns. Brent Klause gave a tribute. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Adam Klause serving as urn bearer. Memorials donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief or to Lakeside Manor, Saltcoats as gifts of remembrance.
