Elsie Schrader

Obituary of Elsie Elizabeth Schrader

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Elsie Elizabeth Schrader (nee Teskey), who passed away November 8, 2023 at the age of 84.  Elsie was born on February 20th, 1939 to Emmanuel and Elizabeth Teskey (nee Czinkota) and was raised on the family farm with her seven brothers and sisters in the Tulleymet area.

As a young adult she moved to Melville and then Yorkton where she worked at local restaurants. This is where she would meet the love of her life, Edwin Schrader, in February 1960. Knowing Edwin was her one true love, they married shortly after on June 18th, 1960 and were blessed with four children.

Elsie and Edwin would live and work on the farm in spring and summer months and move to Yorkton to work in the winter, until eventually making the farm their permanent home in the late 1960’s.  Elsie worked hard and ensured the day-to-day tasks of farming were cared for, while Edwin split his time between farming and his responsibilities at the Yorkton Hospital.

While she had many talents from cooking to gardening, plumbing to fixing tractors, and of course playing midwife for the sheep, her most famous talent was making the best cabbage rolls.  Elsie loved visiting and hosting friends and family, especially at Christmas where the house would be full of relatives and neighbours from around the farm. She was a kind and loving woman who cared deeply for all that she knew, as well as any animal that ended up in her care. This love of animals was one of the common traits she shared with Edwin.

After Edwin’s passing in 2009, Elsie moved into Yorkton where she resided until June 2023.  While in Yorkton, her garden was her sanctuary, especially tending to her lilies and roses. However, her greatest treasure was her dog Teddy who meant everything to her.

She is predeceased by her husband Edwin, granddaughter Janet Daniels, her parents, two sisters, and four brothers, as well as sister in-laws and brother in-laws. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Brenda (Doug) Palmer and her children Heather (Cory) and Adam; Glenda Edmunds and her children Amy (Brenden) and their son Alexander, Kimberley, Leigh (Jon) and their daughter Stevie; Sandra Lesko and her children Kaylen (Owen) and Jackie; son Fred (Sharla) and their children Ashley (Brandon) and Haley; a special friend, who was like a son to her Michael Karpinski, and two sisters and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Elsie’s life was filled with joy, determination, laughter, and love and she truly left a lasting impact on the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

The Funeral Service was held on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. Brenda Palmer read a poem and granddaughter Kaylen gave the eulogy. The honorary urn bearers were Glenda, Heather, Adam, Amy, Kim, Leigh, Kaylen, Jackie, Ashley and   Haley. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Brenda, Sandra and Fred serving as urn bearers.
