Obituary of Sophie Sushetski

Mrs. Sophie Sushetski (Tkachuk), beloved wife of the late Julius Sushetski, sadly passed away on Monday December 4, 2023 at Yorkton Regional Hospital.

Sophie was born on July 18, 1926 to Stephen and Mary Tkachuk (Madarash) at the homestead home known by the elderly family members as the White House.

Sophie received her schooling at Monastyr School with the walk to school of 3 miles. In her youth she worked at the family farm and at a later age worked as a helping hand with Families with small children during seeding, haying and harvesting seasons.

During this time, Sophie met her husband to be and on October 23, 1944 married Julius Sushetski at Olesha Church. They farmed in the Olesha District.

While on the farm, Sophie and Julius raised four children, and as the children aged, they moved to Yorkton in 1974 and operated the farm until 1982.

Upon retirement, Sophie took great pleasure and love in spending time looking after the grandchildren at lunchtime and after school as the school was near their home.

In 1994, Sophie and Julius celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with Family and Friends.

After Julius passed away, Sophie acquired a Condo unit at Fairview Arms when it opened in 2002, where she lived on her own until December 2023.

Being alone Sophie took opportunities to travel with her family to visit family at Toronto, Kapuskasing, Victoria and other places. Sophie enjoyed her trips to Hawaii, Seattle, Palm Desert, Phoenix and of course Las Vegas.

Sophie was predeceased by her husband Julius, June 2001, daughter Marian Belitsky, September 2023 and all her Tkachuk siblings. Sophie was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters.
