Obituary of Orest Mehling

We gather to honor the life of Orest Darryl Mehling, a man whose journey began on July 15, 1952, in of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. On December 15, 2023, Orest peacefully departed from this world, leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on our hearts.

Born to Arnold and Emily Mehling (Erhardt), Orest was the second eldest among four brothers. His older brother, Barry, and younger brothers, Randy, married to Barb, and Reg, formed the close-knit circle of his childhood. Growing up in Stornoway, Orest attended grade school at Stornoway School and later attended high school at Yorkton Regional High School, laying the foundation for a life filled with purpose and dedication.

In November of 1973, Orest married Candace Fiege (Stricker). From this union, two beloved sons, Craig in 1976 and Cameron in 1978, blessed their lives, bringing immense joy and meaning to their family unit.

Orest's heart overflowed with love and pride for his family. His brothers, Randy and Barb with their children Lee (Trysta Liebrecht and daughter Lesaya), Bryce (Rodo Gonzalez), and Tori, along with Barry and Reg, held a special place in his heart. His devotion to his children, Craig and Cameron, and their families—Craig's wife Mandy, children Matthew and Payton, and Cameron's spouse Rachelle and her daughter Suzy—was boundless. His love for his grandchildren, Matthew and Payton, was a source of immeasurable happiness and fulfillment.

Farming was Orest's true passion, a vocation that resonated deeply within him. The fields were his sanctuary, especially during the seeding and harvest seasons. His commitment and love for farming were palpable to all who knew him, reflecting his dedication and strong work ethic.

Beyond his love for farming, Orest found joy in various pursuits. From the pride he took in hunting accomplishments to his love for snowmobiling and the thrill of driving a new truck, he embraced life's simple pleasures.

Recently transitioning from the farm to retirement, Orest adjusted to a new chapter of life in his Yorkton condo. His gentle spirit and kind nature were his trademarks, endearing him to everyone he encountered. His love for his family was unwavering, a testament to his character and the values he held dear.

Today, as we bid farewell to Orest, let us carry forward the lessons of his integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family. May his legacy of love and devotion continue to inspire us.

Rest in peace, Orest Darryl Mehling. Your presence will be deeply missed but forever treasured in our hearts and memories.

The Funeral Service was held on December 21, 2023 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Karen Stepko of Christ Lutheran Church, Rhein officiating. Mandy Mehling read scripture readings and Cam Mehling shared the eulogy. Pianist Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the hymns. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark with Matthew Mehling, Lee Mehling, Harvey Guenther, Bryce Barteski, Logan Els and Darren Zawada serving as casket bearers.
