Obituary of Gerry Farkus
Gerry was born in Yorkton on August 13, 1942, to his parents Steve and Caroline Farkus. He grew up on the family farm near Parkerview. He had three sisters and all attended Cewkerne School.
As he grew older, his love for good music and dance led him to an event in Jedburgh where he met the love of his life, Louise Wrishko. They were wed in 1966, and continued to dance and enjoy music for 57 years. Early in their marriage a few paths were taken but ultimately ended up back in the farm. Along the way in 1970 their only child Sheldon was born.
Life on the farm was busy and rewarding for Gerry, he took pride in every aspect. This was apparent in his crops and animals. He also was an avid hunter and trapper around Parkerview area. As the farm scene changed, he took work off the farm and worked at the RM of Garry for 28 years. During this period, he and Louise also left the farm and moved to Springside, where they reside till this day.
Gerry had many friends and neighbours who were all like family to him. His positive outlook, good ear for listening, and a drink to share made everyone feel at home
Gerry was a proud grandpa and uncle. His grandkids and dogs, as well as many nieces and nephews meant the world to him. He will be missed greatly but will be welcomed with open arms by everyone that has passed before him.
Gerry was predeceased by his mom Caroline; dad Steve; sister Veronica; brother-in-law’s David, Pete, Ron; and sister-in-law Virginia. Gerry leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years Louise; son Sheldon (Kristi), grandchildren Kelsey, Brady, and Jesse; sisters Mary Anne and Joan and their families.
