Obituary of Steve Paley

PALEY – With deep sadness, the family of Steve Paley of Yorkton, beloved husband of Shirley, announce his peaceful passing on January 30, 2024, at the Yorkton District Nursing Home after a brief illness. Steve was the third youngest of the children born.  He was born on December 28th, 1940, to George and Sophie Paley on the family farm located in Theodore, Saskatchewan. He attended Westbrook School. In his younger years, he did various farm labour including milking cows for local farmers.  In 1960, he went to Cranbrook, British Columbia where he worked for City Dairy milking cows and also in the dairy plant.  Later, he worked for Purity Dairy in Cranbrook processing milk. During his time in Cranbrook, he grew to love the dairy industry. While in Cranbrook, he met the love of his life Shirley Lancaster. In 1964, Steve purchased the farm from his mother and later began dairy farming while Shirley worked at the TB hospital in Fort San, Saskatchewan. Steve and Shirley were married in Theodore, Saskatchewan on August 5th, 1967. Shirley later joined Steve in the dairy operation. They shipped fluid milk to the Yorkton plant for 30 years. Steve retired from farming and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Steve was predeceased by his father George in 1956, his mother Sophie in 1980; two brothers in infancy, and brothers Bill (Mary) Paley of Winnipeg, MB; George (Pauline) Paley of Winnipeg, MB, John (Helen) Paley of Calgary, AB; Alex (Dora) Paley of Yorkton, SK; Nick Paley of Yorkton, SK; Fred Paley of Yorkton, SK; and by sisters Katrina (Steve) Koshman of Theodore, SK; Victoria (Bill) Kucheron of Sheho, SK; Alice (Henry) Stefanyshyn of Springside, SK; Dora (Mike) Stadnyk of Niagara Falls, ON; Mary (John) Katayko of Thunder Bay, ON; Lillian (Ed) Watt of Thompson, MB; Lena (Al) Mieirs of Portage la Prairie, MB; Verna (Andy) Antonishyn of Foam Lake; Elsie (Steve) Warcomika of Yorkton. Steve is survived by his wife Shirley, married 56 years. Steve and Shirley raised three children: Chester (Kim) Paley; Sheila Pelletier: grandchildren: Ethan, Sean, Elliot, Parker; and Chantel (Lorenz) Keshane: grandchildren: Nevaeh, Joziah, Lucas, Jackson, Jordyn. One sister: Suzy (Ivan) Sukorokoff of Saskatoon, SK. One brother: Harry (Sylvia) Paley of Yorkton, SK, as well as many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on February 7, 2024 from Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Steve Rosluk of First Baptist Church officiating. Accompanist Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the hymns. Chantel Keshane delivered the eulogy. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dana Pelletier, Lorenz Keshane, Ethan Pelletier, Thunder Strongquill, Sean Pelletier, and Michael Stefanyshyn serving as casket bearers. Memorial donations in memory of Steve Paley may be made to Palliative Care at the Yorkton District Nursing Home (c/o The Health Foundation) gifts of remembrance.
