Obituary of Elizabeth Wiwchar
WIWCHAR – It is with great sadness and cherished memories the family of Elizabeth Wiwchar of Yorkton, Saskatchewan announce she passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the age of 98 years.
Elizabeth was born near Burgis, Saskatchewan to Stefan & Dokina (Kudeba) Terlesky on October 5, 1925. At the tender age of 14, after the untimely passing of her mother, and for most of her younger siblings to remain together, Elizabeth selflessly became their caregiver. She dedicated several years to helping her father with the family, and once everyone was out on their own, Elizabeth married Orest Wiwchar on February 4, 1961. Together they made their home in Yorkton and raised two daughters, Teresa (Teri) and Leona (Leone).
A very giving and loving Wife, Mom, Gramma and Baba (Great Gramma), Elizabeth will be remembered and missed by many.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband Orest Wiwchar; brothers Metro Terlesky (in infancy), George Terlesky, John Terlesky, William Terlesky and Mike Terlesky; sisters Helen Terlesky (in childhood), Mary Berehula, Alice Leson, and Jean Billy; brothers-in-law Metro Berehula, Mike Leson, Mike Hudema, Dan Hudema, Sam Filipchuk, George Billy, Metro Ryczak, Bob Templeton and Eugene Wiwchar; sisters-in-law Martha Templeton, Julia Wiwchar, Gerry Terlesky and Amelia Terlesky; along with her beloved grandson, Brayden Ottenbreit.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Teri Wiwchar and Leone (Greg) Ottenbreit; granddaughters Katelin (Mark) Cuthill and Rayanne (Austin) Krahenbil; great grandchildren Raya Cuthill, Malaya Cuthill, Wynnslet Krahenbil, Otto Krahenbil and Crew Krahenbil; sisters Vera Hudema, Ann Hudema, Lillian Filipchuk, Marge Boychuk and Iris Ryczak; brothers-in-law Bill Boychuk and Peter Wiwchar; sisters-in-law Aileen Terlesky and Helene Wiwchar, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service was held on February 14, 2024 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. The Cross Bearers were Wynnslet, Otto & Crew Krahenbil. The Scripture Readers were Malaya Cuthill & Wynnslet Krahenbil. The musical selections were ‘The Rose’ and ‘Marjorie’. Amanda Buhler led the congregation in singing ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ and ‘Amazing Grace’. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Katelin Cuthill & Rayanne Krahenbil serving as urnbearers.
