One of the memories I keep close to my heart from my time in Canada is when I haven’t even been there for more then a week and I didn’t really know anybody and we hade a team event and Kane just asked if I wanted to go get food I said sure. That trip should have just lasted about 5 minuts but it ended up a lot longer then that from the moment we got in that car we just hit it off and we just talked and truly became friends. And this probably doesn’t sound like a big deal but for me coming to Nanaimo from Sweden and show me that kindness so early in my stay truly ment the world to me and I’m still grateful to this day.

I remember when I first met Kane. He came to work at Heartland. We all hated our job but it was always fun if Kane was there. Him and I would always make sure we were in the same alley and close to each other so we could joke around and laugh when we were waiting for cattle. Kane was such a great friend and every time we hung out, there was never a dull moment. We were either cracking jokes, driving around in his truck and blasting music or having a heart to heart conversation. Kane was always the kind of guy who was willing to help you push through your problems and just be there for you. No matter what time it was, could be right after work or 3am. If I needed someone, he would answer. Kane was like another brother to me. We would send each other the most random snaps, pictures of livestock, trucks, etc. and it gave me something to look back on. One of my favourite times was when I was working at SoakZone in Yorkton and out of the blue Kane texts me “Are you at work?” Me - “Yes. Why? You want to bring your truck in?” Kane - “Not quite…” and he pulled up in the Combine! He then waited for me to get off work just so we could hang out afterwards. Kane always made me feel included whether it was going to a party, at work, or just hanging out and causing chaos in Walmart.
Kane was such a kind and gentle giant. Towered over me but man could he make me feel better with a simple hug and seeing his smile. It’s contagious. Kaner, you will be dearly missed and nothing or no one could ever replace the space you have left in all our hearts. Thank you for being a great coworker and one of a kind friend. We will make sure you are remembered down here. Fly High Big Guy, until we meet again. You’re on the angel’s team now, Give Heaven Some Hell.
