Obituary of Vaughan Thomas
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vaughan Robert Thomas of Yorkton, beloved father of Brandi and Kim, sadly announce his passing on April 8th, 2024. He was 72 years of age.
Vaughan was born on June 4th 1951 to William and Marion (nee Hamilton) Thomas. He was born in Yorkton SK and raised on a farm near Bangor SK. He was the eldest of three sons. He went to elementary school in Bangor and then attended the Yorkton Regional High School. In his earlier years, he held numerous positions before following in his father’s footsteps working as a Livestock Brand Inspector where he spent the majority of his life.
His knowledge and knack for livestock transferred into his personal life as he proudly owned his own farm, including a large herd of cattle and his favourite animal, horses. Vaughan was one of the last true cowboys as he rounded up his cattle and enjoyed his farm work on horseback whenever he could. He found great solitude in fencing, which was his favourite farming task.
Vaughan loved to socialize, enjoy a meal out (more so the dessert), and chat over coffee or a cold beer. He had such a warm heart and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him become a fast friend. He would bring a smile to many faces and was willing to spark a conversation with everyone. He especially enjoyed his rural work and driving around the country.
Vaughan loved his family. He was a proud father to Brandi and Kim and took every opportunity to express his pride for his two daughters. Later on, he became even prouder when his title changed to Grandpa. He was happy to attend each of their celebrations (usually near the end because he was always running on ‘Vaughan Thomas time’). He loved touring Piper, Natalie and Kendon around the farm. He also looked forward to his weekly Sunday phone calls with his brother Dale. These two spent countless hours chatting, reminiscing, and shootin’ the shit.
Vaughan was always up for an adventure. In his later years, he enjoyed travelling. He visited several American states, Alberta, and even tropical locations with family and friends.
Vaughan was predeceased by his parents William and Marion. His memory is left to be cherished by his daughters Brandi (Jeremy) McLellan and Kim (Tyrone) Simoneau and grandchildren: Piper Vaughan, Kendon Stephen, and Natalie Sawyer. As well as his twin brothers Dale (Bev) and Darrell (Judy) Thomas.
In true Vaughan fashion, he would think everyone attending this celebration of his life was and is ‘just tremendous’.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 12, 2024 and the Memorial Service was held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 both from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Crystal Bailey served as officiant. Tributes were delivered by Sam Buckle, Matt Veer and Clayton Kormos. A private family interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Brandi & Kim serving as urn bearers.
Memorial donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance as gifts of remembrance.
